I wondered when his 'red pill' crack was going to start coming back to him.

Tesla's aren't 'mericans cars.

I fully expect Elon to lose his hair in some mad science-related mishap and go full Lex Luthor, except there won't be a Superman to stop him.

I supported him till the red pill crack.
It aligns him with right wing idiots, and that's a shame. I would've expected him to follow science not ignorance

It is disappointing , the morons win. We will never be a multiplanet species

I still don't understand why people think Musk is some kind of super genius. He is a competent businessman but it wasn't like he was inventing anything. The closest he comes to being a genius is that he pays smart people to do things they came up with. Even surrounded by smart people he still says dumb shiat to like his talks about colonizing mars or building a hyperloop. Just becomes something is technically possible doesn't mean it is at all practical but people seem to get blinded by the science.

Yeah, make the rockets go high, make the batteries last longer, and STFU.

Otherwise you'll be the next Werner von Braun. We loved what he gave us and hated who he was.

When you're the 'brand' STFU about being an asshole or you screw up the brand.

Oh wait...that's too late. Now...buying a tesla or or Elon 'brand' product is poisoned.

Yup. We have nearly 15 year old cars and are in the market for electric.

Tesla? Hard pass.

I don't appreciate him strong-arming our county and state leaders to open up his car factory and so this family will never purchase a Tesla or any product associated with Musky-Boy.

Wernher von Braun was an engineering genius and pioneer in rocketry, but also a completely amoral gun-for-hire equally happy to build terror bombs aimed at London civilians as to advance peaceful scientific international space exploration.

Elon Musk inherited an Apartheid blood mining fortune, hit the dotcom-bubble lottery when a company he invested in invented paypal after forcing him out in exchange for stock options, bought an electric car company, and since then he's been a modern Thomas Edison, raising VC with showmanship and then using it to pay engineers to invent stuff he can slap his name on.

Von Braun was a douche but a genius. Elon Musk is a douche, but rich.

Yeah, this is weird -- he seems to be cozying up to Trump and his fans, but Trump has repeatedly mocked electric cars, and Republicans in general have attacked the tax incentives for EV's that Tesla basically depends on to drive their sales.

So, yeah, let's see how Ol' Musky's brilliant plan here works out for him.

Tesla's future is in China.  They're building a massive factory in Shanghai.  The Chinese government is watching his antics closely.  Let's see how that plays over there.

He's another Steve Jobs.  A visionary, but only in the abstract.  His personality, salesmanship, and influence bring forth a lot of cool stuff that he could have never made work on his own.  No one else could have brought forth a viable, functioning automobile brand created out of nothing, especially one exclusively electric.   Same with SpaceX.  Lots of people had these ideas, many tried, but for whatever reason, Musk gets this shiat done.

Is he some sort of perfect man?  Hell no.  Much like Jobs, he's a quirky, self important douchebag who would step over his own mother for five seconds of glory.  But also like Jobs, he does the impossible and changes the world.

brainlordmesomorph: Steve Jobs is dead, so those people have to worship somebody.

There's a lot of truth in that, and particularly that Jobs had a real grip on that guy who announced cool things as a media wunderkind, and with him gone, someone had to fill the vacuum.

The big difference is that Jobs delivered. When he said "we're doing this" it was either already in the shops or would be coming soon. And it worked, had great customer service and made a profit.

Musk is a charlatan, a grifter. He makes all sorts of announcements that never happened. People are handing over deposits for that Cybertruck that looks like it was knocked up over a weekend by the art department.

I can't imagine handing over $50K to the guy for a product. Any day, you might find out that the financials are as crooked as Enron and that car you own has no support, no spare parts and as a result, second hand values halve overnight.

He studied physics at a graduate level. He's clearly not stupid. Doesn't mean he can't be foolish and I believe he's diagnosed bipolar.

That's OK.  When it happens, the Musk-sniffers will blame the oil companies and Detroit for killing Tesla.

It is much easier to control emissions from tens of thousands of smokestacks than hundreds of millions of tailpipes.

I know a guy who bought who's on like his 2nd or 3rd Tesla by now, and he's going to get the truck. He knows he a fanboi. He talks about it like its an addiction that he's learned to live with.

To be fair, that would apply to most rocket scientists of the age anywhere. Many of the same people that made rockets for NASA also worked on rockets to deliver nuclear payloads intended to murder millions of people. Hell, that applies to many of the most popular and productive physicists of the 20th century who willingly worked on developing such weapons, from Fermi to Einstein and Oppenheimer and others. Von Braun didn't do anything other's in his field didn't do (including use of unwitting test subjects and projects that involved forced relocations for things like nuclear testing), and while it's not unfair to call him out for it, it is unfair to make it seem like he was some sort of special case and that the same wasn't true of most of his contemporaries.
