USE A RAZOR BLADE!

I go through at least a couple of bulbs a week, and yeah, the last few times I've been to Ralphs they've had no garlic, something I've *never* happen seen there.  Had to go to hoity-toity Gelsons to get some; they still had plenty.

Same here, for the past couple weeks the garlic available has been utter crap.

Onions are hard to find at times as well. I stock up on dried.

I bought a pound of dried garlic on Amz (and 2lbs of dried onion, too).

The dry is not as good as the fresh stuff but it's pretty darn good.  I throw it into vinegar w/herbes de provence for salad dressing. Grind it up to make garlic powder. In hot cooking, it makes a killer diced garlic on hot greens (spinach, kale, etc.) by just throwing it into the pan.  It's easier than fresh or jarred wet. I might stick with this.

Isn't loss of taste a symptom?  Are people attempting to compensate?

/locally the garlic in spice bottles or garlic salt comes from China.

Yup...local grocery store was completely out a couple weeks ago...it was traumatizing.

People too sick to fight back. No garlic. It's a great time if you are a vampire.

Garlic harvesting will start in about a month or so, end of June and into summer so non-imported supplies will be a little scarce but not for too much longer.  Luckily I have been able to get green garlic for a month or so now and it is great and I will miss it when it is gone.

The store I go to has been stocking nothing but Spanish roja garlic.  I buy a few pounds each trip.

Sorry to hear everyone has had to much trouble. Last trip to Kroger the bin was full of garlic, and Walmart had tons of minced garlic in a secret hidey hole in the produce section most folks don't know about. In the spice aisle they had a few jars but they had some onion minced in too and my friend HATES onions unless they are powdered. (More onions for me!)

I did happen to save a clove and push it into the ground. Dunno if it'll grow, but it will fit right in with the tomatoes, basil, rosemary, and jalapeños.

Honestly... it's hard to tell, so it ranks as funny.

Plus, when I see Paul Sorvino, I think of Mira Sorvino, so it all works out to the positive.

/And on topic, I did have some issues finding garlic two weeks ago

Nope.
I grow it and buy it. I juice it, I freeze pulp, I have bulbs ready for use. No garlic shortage here...
1/2 the food on the planet needs garlic to be right.

Garlic is good for the immune system and has been historically used to fight infection. It tastes great, and is stupid easy to grow, even in a pot.
Order (or find some real bulbs at a hippie store) and plunk them into decent soil, ass down, in about a 1.5" (5cm) hole you poke with a finger, then cover. Late spring you stop watering (when the tops brown out), and let them sit for a month... then dig them out and dry...
Google will tell you better, but you can do it in a pot on a windowsill with about 1 hour total effort until harvest.
