I think google Glass is, most likely, a starting point for what will eventually be AR.  It's like the PDA was to the cell phone - Yes, you had a lot of douches walking around with them but eventually, they evolved into something that most people carry and have integrated into their lives.

I don't know the capabilities of Google Glass but I know the Hololens has had, for quite a while, the ability to 3D wireframe a good chunk of the room in your immediate vicinity.  Combine the increase in processor speed (over time) with 5G and improvements in this technology and everything is ready to go for AR.

because this is just too difficult

I have to constantly remind myself not to write down notes on paper. I put my pens and pencils away so that they're not right at hand. Once you learn to always take notes on a computer you'll realize that the extra three seconds it takes is so worth it. Over the years I've also taught myself to take a few minutes to take notes on new stuff I've learned. Simple coding tricks, key things about a project I'm working on, notes about a doctor's appointment, etc. It's so useful to be able to go back to those months or years later and have things well documented. OneNote isn't perfect but it's good enough.

Meh, implants and augmentations are where it is at where the tech is passive and can broadcast to a short range external device such as a phone etc. These implants would do everything from continually monitor how your body/organs are functioning to monitoring potential viral or bacterial invaders. Knowing you are sick before symptoms present themselves and having a comprehensive history of vitals would boost healthcare tremendously, be it preventative or treatments.

This could tell you how your body is processing food, and determine certain intolerances with external tech used to scan food prior to ingesting. Ocular implants could fix vision problems or even enhance it past our inherent capabilities. Hearing implants developed further to fix tinnitus, deafness, or impairments and even boost them or act to filter out harmful noises.

Ultimately, implants that would affect the immune system to help cure or control complex autoimmune disease such as Crohn's or IBS/IBD - or even boost the body's ability to heal or fight off infections. At a more basic level, alleviate or control allergies or intolerances.

This is the future tech I am looking forward to.  Not some stupid farking ring I can ask to remind me what is on my grocery list.

Great, now your always-on mega-corp listening device won't ever be left in your car or coat pocket. Their AI will catch your every word with crystal clarity, and be able to pump your internet experience full of targeted advertising! Hell, if you tend to visit the bathroom at night, it will start recommending drugs for your prostate! What a marvelous modern world we live in. God bless our voluntary surveillance state!
