I pulled for Bernie hard, and I think Trump, here, is right. However, this doesn't mean anything more, President Dipsh*t. We allllllll want your ass out of the White House. You have gone from the Great Divider to the Great Uniter in people wanting you out.

And in prison. With water from Flint Michigan for all your washing and drinking needs.

In fact, I think this should be part of the punishment for all of these assholes. Also, they can have the same lunches that Joe Arpaio used to feed his prisoners.

Did the President just make a reference to Mad Magazine character Alfred?

Did the person who is our President remember Mad Magazine long enough to refer to a fictitious character from a supposedly humorous magazine that died before I became an adult?

Conservatives, I'm not angry. I'm just confused. And alarmed.

I'm thinking something must be about to drop.  Maybe on Friday?  But I'm not sure.  I guess I'm on the fence about it.

You know your insults are garbage when you have to explain to the masses in parentheses who they're meant for.

On the other and, all someone has to say is "He's a moron" and they know almost immediately who that is in reference to.

I do love the fact that Donald Trump has absolutely zero interest in gaining more voters and expanding his base. It's as if this idea hasn't ever even occurred to him.

Hey, his base got him elected last time, so surely that'll work again!

Meanwhile, he's burning up campaign funds with ads in areas that he should already have locked down (Florida panhandle, etc.) just trying to dearly hold on to his precious base

It's important to be aware that he declared bankruptcy on multiple properties, divorced multiple wives, and disavowed his own thoughts when it was convenient to do so.

I thought he was a trash panda many years before he became political.

He is a bankrupt man. Socially bankrupt. Morally bankrupt. He could actually be rich so I can't speak to that. Then again refusing to reveal his tax returns is bankrupt in a way - socially and morally.

The primary element which expresses itself in his case is that the evangelicals are a hard yes for him. If that's a crowd which pleases you then there's nothing I can say which will change your mind. Even though they are devil-worshippers. I've seen their demons first-hand and it made me blush.

OK, look, you can talk shiat about the president of my country all day long and I've got your back.  Odds are I'll agree with you.

But talk shiat about Mad Magazine and we've got problems.

FWIW Mad has been dying a slow and painful death for a while now.  It's still technically getting published but it pretty much died in 2019.  Which I guess makes you a rather young adult.

Looks like he really doesn't want to run against Biden.

The goal here being that he hopes that he can pull more angry "I'll show you!" Bernie voters to the Trump side.

I don't agree with this and all I will say is "We'll see". But the hard progressive left split after the defeat of Bernie. One side said, "Okay, I don't like Joe Biden, but defeating Donald Trump is more important". We resigned to fight our fights during the Biden administration. Then you have the side that say, "No. Don't ever give the Democrats your votes ever. They have belittled and shiat on the progressives and their values long enough and we aren't getting anywhere without sending a message."

I empathize with the second group (and I try not to get mad about this) because the media sure as shiat was not objective under any circumstances who they wanted. It was clear that it wasn't Trump, but it sure as hell wasn't Bernie Sanders (to a lesser extend Elizabeth Warren). My anger at the literal propaganda and manipulation at the situation was something I don't think I can ever truly forgive the Democratic party for and after 2020 they need to earn my vote no matter how much you centrist neolib pissants want to get mad at me if I want to withhold my votes.

Now that I got my personal views out of the way, Trumps tactics aren't going to work. There are far fewer hard left people who believe voting for Trump is a good message to send to the Democrats. Clearly, if they did that in 2016, it wasn't going to work in 2020. So what they have resigned to do is to (in non-swing states), vote for the Green Party candidate. They have emphasized that if you live in a battle ground state that you should vote for Joe Biden. But now is the time to send a message to the Democratic party that their progressive base is farking livid now.

Don't get me wrong I am happy Bernie and the rest of the progressive groups are finding good way to work with Biden. I am cautiously optimistic.

I see it more as a trap centrists are willing fall into. They win both of the last primaries against progressives but lose to Trump . They claim it is the fault of the progressives( that they hate) they lost to Trump and that  toast for Bernie backing out seems like a lifetime ago.

He is playing on their hatred to keep the division open and make sure they do not reach out to the left while laughing at your gullibility.

Sanders is literally one of the people responsible for writing up Biden's agenda for presentation to the convention.  Or, if you want to be slightly less charitable to Biden, Sanders is basically doing all of Biden's homework for the guy since Biden didn't really have an agenda so much as a stack of half-coherent 'fix old no new' platitudes.

Right now, Bernie Sanders has a larger influence on the shape of the next presidential administration than Biden does, and even putting policy aside he has a greater influence on Biden's campaign than Biden does, since the key to winning the election this year is pretty clearly winning back the members of the party with a memory longer than a goldfish who are rightly suspicious that Biden is capable of representing our interests to any appreciable degree.

Obviously, this will change once the election is actually done and the executive officers are seated; we'll go back to Sanders being an influential but not overpoweringly so Senator and the White House's course will be, obviously, in the hands of the people in the White House.  Calling him weak now, though?  That's ridiculous on a level that I don't even have the words to properly describe.  Right now Sanders is in a position of enough leverage that he could probably just straight-up hand pick the entire cabinet and VP and Biden would go with it immediately and with no complaints.  He's not going to actually do that because he is actually loyal to the US and wants it to have a functioning government with an orderly command structure, but that's what the power dynamic is here.

// The problem with riding Obama's coat-tails is that some of us remember what Obama went through to get into office in the first place, and that a lot of his high-profile cabinet picks etc were "team of rivals" political appointments designed to reach out to otherwise-opposed factions within the Democrats (y'know, like what Biden is doing now).  This means that when you keep nominating people you're nominating someone based on a post they got specifically because of a lifetime of policy-making that the best president of the modern era considered to be the bad parts of policy that he was here to reform.  That's... not as good a starting point as some members of the party seem to think it is.  I'm just glad that Biden at least recognizes the value of that strategy in itself and is reaching out in the other direction... I genuinely hope that works out, I suspect not doing so was one of the big things undercutting Clinton.

Understood. I'm amongst the oldest of the Millennials.

Worry is a delicate thing. I seek to gain an edge with folks with fewer years than me.

I won't just become some quiet, inconsolable elder in my time. I will vouch for those who want to lead and transform into advocates for their own. I need help, though. I can't pave the road alone.
