You folks understand why you're supposed to cover your cough or sneeze, right?

This is the same thing.

/literally at Mayo Clinic right now, surrounded by people in masks, so I'm really getting a kick

I'm skeptical about the efficacy of masks worn by the general public. Mainly because I see way too many people wearing it around their chin, and the probability people will engage in riskier behavior believing they are protected.

I wear one anyway.

Trumpers aren't trying to reduce transmission. They want you to get it to stick it to the libs.

Its why we need 80+% of people to wear them, to help cover for the idiotic behavior.

Listened to several BBC health podcasts. The take of experts they talked to is they help stop the spread IF you have it already, but they do nothing if you're near an unmasked spreader.

So the MAGA murderers are going to win in killing liberals and minorites.

"75 percent" is a nice round number. No decimals or anything. Surely a real statistic and totally not pulled out of someone's butt.

Of course, that's just how stupid Bill Gates and his 5G chips are. The secret is right out in the open, they can't even bother to make real statistics to get people to comply. Enjoy your "vaccines", suckers.

No if everyone wore one but decided that meant they could go out shopping everyday instead of once a week or every two weeks. Not if simply because everyone was wearing masks they decided they could go back to processing chickens elbow to elbow. Not if they mistake wearing masks for being safe. Not if they confuse wearing masks as an excuse to give up social distancing.

I find its really easy to make the masks more breathable by cutting out the part of the mask that covers your mouth an nose.

Subtonic: I just love how wearing a farking mask during a pandemic has somehow become a political position. We're farked.

For years, I've been saying that if we discovered that a civilization-ending asteroid was going to hit earth in 10 years, and we could deflect it if we spent 10% of our GDP on the program, we'd be utterly hosed because because of how the politics would play out.

Turns out it's worse than that, and "wearing a mask" and "washing your hands" are too much for us.

2020-05-20 11:10:05 AM
75% is pretty good in the hands of the average face mask wearer -- or condom user.

But I believe I can up that.

A proper surgical mask of N95 standard quality should help reduce transmission by close to 95%, 19 times out of 20. If you layer face masks and materials, you can get that up to 99% which is about as good as anything gets because nothing is 0% or 100%, the scale (from 0 to 1) is open and purely probabilistic, Baysian if you please.

My recommendation (I am not a President, nor do I play the fool on TV) is to layer a piece of nylon stocking (chunky girl unless you are a very small person with a small head) over a surgical type mask or dust mask or both). I have seen nurses do this right.

Those are the smart ones.

So far my homemade masks are crap, but I am learning.

One, nylons. Two, you can use twist-ums as nose pieces. Three, you can gut surgical masks and other masks and reuse the earloops. With nylons, you don't necessarily need the ear loops except to help keep the filters and masks in place.

You will need enough so everybody can wear them once and then have them washed with soap and water and left to break up the virus as soap is very good at doing, if a little slow.

The best way to build a good face mask is to start with a pile of surgical and dust maks, then put a really cut cloth over them and cover than with nylong. I have lots of blue shop towels, but I bought a cheap brand that is only about 85% effective--in one layer, that is. I can take up to four without gagging to death.

And if you see somebody with the mask over there mouth and not their nose, they are probably just breathing while they get a chance. They should push the mask over their nose before you are within, say, 15 feet if you give them plenty of time and room.

Anybody can be pro-living.

It is does not sort the True Believers of the In Group from the Heathens.

Being Pro-Life has absolutely nothing to do with love, respect, tolerance, humanity, or even life. Hence the Pro-Lifers love of killing the Heathens and their own relations and friends whenever they think they can get away with it.

Wearing a 75% effective condom and saying six feet away from your partner is probably pretty safe.  Hell, in your case, 3 inches would probably do it.

I was loading up at the dispensary when the budtender, mid-transaction, pulled down her mask to sneeze into her arm.

I immediately pointed out that she was sort of defeating the purpose of the mask.

She responded that if she sneezed into the mask, she'd have to wear a gross mask for the rest of the day. I had no response.

I'm glad I was wearing a mask.

Imagine an STD that can infect up to 6 people during the time you're infected. 6 people who are up to 6 feet away from you, or who walked across your path up to two hours after you walked your path.
