if you're a misanthropic asshole often enough sooner or later you're going to be right.

I refuse to wear meth hair accessories and Newsweek articles. Why does that make me a moron?

I'm always confusing Mountain Home and Mountain View. I've been to one, but not the other.

Kinda depressing. (sigh)

When you use your card (credit or debit) in any store, they get your "private" information, you moron. Your name, address, bank, routing number, purchase history, etc. All of it.

You're not a freedom fighter by harassing some weary employee at Costco or McDonald's over their mask policy. You're just an asshole.

I consider those who wear masks morons.  Especially fake masks made of hankies and t-shirts.  Totally useless.  For the wearer and for others.  False sense of security. Herd mentality. Science deniers.  Fake masks are as useful as screen doors on submarines.

My new swear word of the day:  Flippin' Arkansaw. This is why some people read maps carefully. Another reason is to find the fake, made-up places, like the one I am from.

I disagree. It is a matter of increments. The flimsiest odds are better than zero. Zero is death.  Which reminds me, I forgot to buy my lottery ticket and the expectation was up.

But when your non-mask chances of death are already lottery-level, adding a mask doesn't change the calculation much.

You ought to come to my town. 75% of the people refuse to wear masks and 4% who wear them, leave their noses sticking out. Most are ready to argue over how unnecessary it is to wear a mask.

Remember we thought 2016 was bad because Bowie died and a few famous. And everyone was like OMG 2016 is the grim reaper of celebrities. And Abe Vigoda.....and when he died reality changed.

The Rules

1. The Universe does not play favourites.

2. The Gambler's Fallacy is believed in by a majority of people but that doesn't make it any less fallacious.

3. It's not about you. You are not special. It's not about the moment as the odds change every moment.

4. It's not about odds at all.  It's about consideration, manners, compliance with the law, rules and regulations, community, patriotism, religion, truth, science, fact-based reasoning, and admitting you are not omnsicent, immortal, omnipotent, or God.

I know my odds. I can be sure I am right plus or minus 3 percentiles, which is toa range of six percent, 19 times out of 20, let us say, but quite probably short of that scientific standard. That's not why I wear masks. I am experimental, not mental. I don't wear or not wear a mask on principle, but on facts and probability estimates. I think. Feel compassion. And Learn.

You going to go into that bad science about the virus being so small it'll pass through the weave?
That crap. You know they kinda clump together in blobs of snot and mucus.
One doesn't detach itself from a snot rocket clump and have a go at it alone.

I wear a pollen mask, like the kind people use to mow the lawn when they have allergies.  It's not a perfect fit, but it'll mostly contain a sneeze, and not wearing it makes me a thoughtless dickhead.

BTW, Schnitt makes the podcast unlistenable in the extreme.

They aren't totally useless, just not the panacea that some think they are.  Some are better than others, They are appropriate is some situations and not others, and there is a right way and wrong way to wear them. The fact that many if not most people who wear them keep touching them with their hands after touching other things, keep pulling them up and down, keep reusing single-use masks and/or not washing reusable ones are problems the magnitude of which still needs to be properly addressed.  That and the common but mistaken belief that one who wears a mask doesn't have to take other precautions.

Uh, the masks work because when you breath, aerosolized, wet virus particles expelled from your mouth are 0.5 to 4.0 microns wide.  They evaporate down to 0.1 micron in diameter in less than a second.  Wearing just about any covering keeps the virus in the mask and not in my lungs.

Todd is right about the facemask issue. He explained it really well too.  In related news, Todd is right about something. Just kidding: Having a conservative guy you can actually listen to without having to cringe all the time is actually rather refreshing.
