(Twitter Donald Trump)   Literally threatening to withhold disaster aid from Michigan if they don't cancel mail-in voting. Little early for extortion, isn't it?   (twitter.com) divider line

King Trump doesn't belong in America

Wait, did the rogue Secretary of State do this heinous act, or was it done without the rogue Secretary of State's authorization?

Yes but people who aren't going to vote correctly shouldn't be allowed to. It's simple, really.

Is Trump worried that Americans might vote?

I'm not a lawyer (and neither is Trump) so I'm not sure about any legalities, but where I live they mail me a ballot and supposedly they check my signature to be sure I'm really me when they tally my vote.

I'm actually more worried that my signature won't look right to them than I am about a few people who might possibly intercept a ballot in the mail and abuse the opportunity.

This pre-dates Trump. Republicans are perpetually trying to limit voting. They have determined that they have a vested interest in keeping as many people from voting as possible.

He's worried the *wrong* Americans will vote

Fill in "wrong" with whatever word you envision he would think there...

Seems Trump didn't actually learn anything from his impeachment.

Let's see how threatening to withhold tax payer money from tax paying voters to ensure they don't vote goes over.

Maybe it's a little more simple to grasp than "quid pro quo" in some foreign land.

It sure as shiat should be far more infuriating.

Is Susan Collins concerned about this?

I doubt he understands, even now, what he did wrong.

I know he doesn't understand what sleeping giant he is poking with his tweeted threats.

For every "meh, what does it matter?" couch sitter there is at least one who grew up understanding "your vote, your voice" and that that is the last, best way to oust this incompetent.

Some of us who wouldn't cross the street to flip off a MAGA hatter would chew glass if our vote was threatened.

The man is a weeping ulcer on the body politic.

The only solution to this is to vote BLUE on your entire ballot.

So did South Dakota. I wonder what the difference is.

Although it's interesting to see him deploy a "vote for me or i will let you die" strategy. I wonder if it'll work.

2020-05-20 9:12:35 AM
I can specifically remember during the impeachment trial, someone saying something along the lines of "can you imagine if Trump had tried to do this to a state (instead of Ukraine)".

Well, we don't need to imagine anymore. He's done it to several states.

The modern Republican party is based solely off of opposition to the Civil Rights era, including the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

It's impressive how damaging DT will be to America, but this was a long time coming.  From Goldwater to the John Birch Society to Lee Atwater to Fox News, this was a long time coming.  This monster has been growing for years.

not only that, but people having a zoning dispute with him over a dock Trump wants to build discovered that the permit allowing Mar a Lago to be used as a nightclub legally bars anyone from actually living at that address.

There is voter fraud alright and if Trump is using this as his home address, it's him doing it.

2020-05-20 9:15:05 AM
It's never too early for extortion. And I find this odd, because I was assured that elections are strictly state affairs that the federal government couldn't interfere with.

2020-05-20 9:15:12 AM
His tweet is a lie.

Michigan isn't mailing absentee ballots.

They are mailing applications for absentee ballots.

So, he's actually threatening to kill MORE Americans.

The flood is in an area that votes for Trump of course and the disaster was caused by a private damn that had its license pulled for hydroelectric power generation by the feds because of design flaws.

Not like pissing off the voters in a swing state is a bad strategy for reelection.

They're probably going to win too. Nobody cares enough to stop the neo-Confederacy from ripping the country apart at the seams, it would appear.

This.  People act like the Republicans just started being assholes last Thursday.  William Rehnquist, who has been dead for fifteen years and was 80 when he died, made his bones with voter caging.

More lies from the Trump administration.

Michigan is not sending out absentee ballots.

Michigan is sending out the registration forms/request forms to currently registered voters so you don't have to go to your local county clerks office to pickup the form.    Once the forms are processed and they verified you are who you say you are, then you'll get an official ballot.

This would be like Michigan sending everyone a Pizza Hut delivery menu.   Doesn't mean you are getting a pizza delivered to your house, it just makes it easier for you to order something if you want.

I don't feel like they would rip America apart.  I think they would affirm a certain type of America that has always existed.

Withholding funding to a swing state during an election year?  Bold move Cotton.
