Because only the marijuanas could make a bunch of suits take over a trendy company and proceed to run it into the ground.

so they expanded their publishing platform to buy and kill the competition? That doesn't seem like it would be effective enough to overcome the issues in publishing apparent for the last decade or more, particularly for such a niche market.

Raising enough money to enter such a highly (pun intended) regulated market would be tough at the best of times. These are not the best of (High) times.
