A trial near me has hardly anyone on it. I don't use my mask then.

I only wear mine in stores. I can keep away from people everywhere else.

When you're dead?

I mean... you wouldn't be breathing.  The little 'rona buggies would be sitting still.

When you are in your own home/car alone or with the people you isolated with. Outside, if you can keep six feet distance. Wear it everywhere else.

Band practise?

'Um, the trombone section is sounding kinda muffled.'

So you can munch on a baggie of trial mix?

I suppose they must keep the jury seated well apar

Oh, I see. Minor typo. Yes, that should be fine. There won't be anyone anywhere close to two metres away from you.

Yeah, I get a kick when I see people driving with them It's not fun to breathe muggy air all day, so I take it off before I get in the car, and put it back on again when leaving the car to go into a store. I don't wear it to drive with, that's just silly.

I also won't wear it to my daughter's school tomorrow.

But that's only because it's for a teacher/staff parade in the parking lot, and we're all staying in our cars to watch. ;-)

Has anyone else ever read an article where there was only one person quoted, yet the insisted on attributing each and every quote separately, instead of saying "We talked to Howard Gamble, and Administrator with the Ohio County Health Department"?

It's just they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future.

I say two places:

1) At home (if your housemates get it, you're pretty much screwed no matter what)
2) When you're leaving the house for an exclusively outdoor activity where you can reasonably expect to remain more than six feet away from everyone else (like walking through the neighborhood)

In basically every other circumstance, I'm wearing a mask.

If I have a multi stop excursion I'll put the mask on just once, and leave it on, until I'm done being near humans, only then do I remove the mask carefully, only by touching the strings, and not touching the face of the mask.  At no point during my excursion do I adjust the mask, or otherwise touch my face.

So, I won't wear the mask on the way to the first store/place, but I'll wear it in the car between multiple stops, and I won't wear it again for the final drive home.  I leave the mask in my car, where it and the car get a five day quarantine period.  (I'm retired, and can do this.)

Possibly overkill, but not necessarily silly.  It's highly dependent on one's circumstances.

That's pretty smart. Don't forget that the acts of putting on and taking off the mask contaminate your fingers and your hands should be cleansed after doing either.  I've kept hand sanitizer in my car for many years.  The major use in the before times was to clean my hands after filling my tank but now I use it more frequently.

I pull it off by the elastic, but have to grab the mask to put it on. But my wife makes me put on so much goddamn hand sanitizer, that I could most likely just put my hand in front of my mouth and not even need a mask. ;-)

Sanitizer before entering the store. Sanitizer when leaving the store. Sanitize the cart, wash the hands first thing when we get home, lather, rinse, repeat...

Just a quick heads-up about using face masks. They are recommended in particular circumstances, mostly about stopping 'you' spreading Covid19, or 'you' interacting with someone who has Covid19. They have never been a "wear this everywhere outside your home" fashion accessory...

WHO advice about Face Masks

Follow up. Australia, which follows the WHO protocols for face masks, recently mourned the death of the 100th Covid19 victim.

If America had the same death rate, that would translate to 1,385 fatalities.

I realise that there other factors, like mobility, land borders, separate jurisdictions, etc in play.

But it does suggest that the pandemic could have been handled better...

When I leave home to pick up prescriptions at the pharmacy, go grocery shopping and obviously I'm wearing one when I go to medical appointments. In fact I'll be doing the first two on Thursday.

Hate wearing them, though, because fogged up glasses. :/

Since asymptomatic spreaders are a problem with COVID19, you have to assume that everyone, everywhere may or may not have it. Therefore you wear a mask whenever you will be interacting with someone you are not isolating with, to avoid spreading it, and because anyone anywhere may have it. It's Schrodinger's virus. We all both have it and don't have it. Potentially.

Rub your fingers with some soap and rub that on the glasses...then just wipe it off.

The soap will stop fogging. The thing is to leave a bit of a soap residue...not rinsed compleatly off.
People do this with ski goggles, swim goggle, and snokling goggles all the time.
It works.
You just need a touch of soap on the glass to prevent fogging. Touch some soap and rub that in the glasses.

I will admit, when I have to be physically present at work (campus research remains almost entirely shut down and all classes are 100% virtual), due to the currently extremely low population density inside I don't wear a mask.

I was there for 6 hours today... I passed 15 feet from one person, 25 from a second, and at one point had some help lifting a pallet onto my cart for a few seconds. Otherwise I was in a closed office suite, all by myself, or in a server machine room all by myself.

It's always a calculated risk, but there hasn't been a case of community transmitted covid in my city of 160K for weeks, so I calculate the risk as low enough that I should just go about my business at present.

If I were working in New York obviously I would act differently. There... There I'd probably have built myself a portable electrostatic filter mask by now.

It was a Princess Bride reference.

You have my sympathies. When we went into lockdown, I had to take about three inches off my goatee to get the mask to fit.

Ahh can't believe I missed that, guess It's time for a rewatch! My sympathies as well, have been floating the idea of a shave but have been informed I might be single shortly afterwords (which would be awkward trapped together during the pandemic). Going to have to go for some sort of a scarf thing soon which will be fun during the summer.
