Some of my greatest adventures in life occurred when I was young and broke. Hostels, sleeping on trains, staying with friends, "camping" in a car...there are plenty of ways to sleep cheap. Gravitate toward places where the charm, beauty or crazy is baked in (i.e. New Orleans, Paris, San Francisco, Greek Islands, San Sebastian, etc.), and you won't need to blow a pile of cash to really experience a place.
