How can we live without this 10 minutes of entertainment packed into a 4-hour show?

It's hard to have Oscars when there is no product to judge.

I'm more disturbed by the fact by 2025 at the latest all the Best Picture nominees will be grin character studies of the Lost Year of 2020

GRIM, not grin, although I do look forward to the inevitable "Scary Movie" style backlash to the dark movies.

Why the Fark did this need to be submitted as a Jezebel link?

And I'll look forward to seeing the upcoming Tweets (deleted soon after posting) in which various celebrities hold this up as an example of the adversity they have to struggle with even as wealthy entertainers. This might in fact be one of the greatest and most impactful adversities in the history of adversity.

The 9/11 movie craze didn't last long.  The last thing people will want to see are movies about idiots sitting around the house.

I really hope I'm right about this one, but I imagine that most entertainment media is going to completely ignore this time period.

This one may end up too big to ignore.. but it's too soon to tell.

We're Already Talking About Postponing the Oscars

Way to inject yourself into a conversation where your opinion means nothing, Jez.

The Oscars would be worth watching if they let Ricky Gervais host, allowed him to drink, and turned him loose.

That plus one incredibly smart and talented person or small group of people will figure out a  unique way to film a movie utilizing social distancing and it will be  a huge hit and then every major studio will parade out their watered down version and ruin what was once a unique and well done thing.

My guess is first movie about Covid 19 will be inline with a You've got Mail romantic comedy. They will call it "Zoom Into My Heart"

To be fair, there are no movies that deserve any awards in 2020 anyway.

This.  Although the last RG thread showed that Fark now hates him.

Combine 2020 and 2021 into a single ceremony in February 2022. Increase the number of nominations by 2 per category to accommodate the fact that there's two years but one of those years had fewer films. Allow 2 winners in a category if the top 2 vote-getters were released in different years and were within 3% of one another.

Having lived through 9/11, I always felt the movies came out too soon.
World Trade Center and Flight 93 were both 2006.
Not "too soon" as in "it's disrespectful" but too soon in that we JUST lived it and the last thing, at least *I* wanted to do was relive it.

I had a blank tape in the VCR and was watching The Today Show when the first plane hit.  Matt Lauer said "I think there's a kitchen fire in a restaurant on the upper floors of the world Trade center."

I hit record (on SLP) just thinking my wife may want to see the news story.  Then the world went to Hell, and my VCR was recording everything live.

It's been 20 years and I STILL don't want to watch that tape.

I know this is off topic from the headline, sorry

Considering they nominate TV movies that studios mail screeners to voters, and actual movies that need a big farking screen to work get pretty ignored, fark it, only nominate vertical video 10 second clips. You'll definitely get better internet ratings that way (note: we don't bother tracking whether the audience are ad bots or actual humans).

Even if we aren't social distancing then, I don't think the people of our crashed economy will be in the mood for watching rich people have a glamour and glitz night on the town.
