"The next time we send money, you'll get to send another letter," Mnuchin replied.

Talking to him like he's the bratty 4 year old he is.

Theory Of Null: This probably means we will be getting another stimulus check in the near future. I mean why would they set up a debit card system after already sending out most of the money?

Could be that they haven't sent most of it out at all. Could be that this is a colossal waste of money and effort.

Im also assuming this somehow involves skimming money somewhere by someone in 'fees' or the like.

Any bets that these debit cards carry heavy fees like the payroll cards some shady employers like to use?
Couple of bucks per withdrawal, couple more there to check your balance, things like that.
Fees going directly to whatever bank is making the best campaign contributions, of course.

The fees to use these debit cards will probably total $1,199.99.

Yeah. Who's making the cards, what are the activation fees, and who gets them.

Admittedly, if done correctly this actually is a good way to do this. You get your card, to activate it you call an IRS hotline and provide your name, social, and DOB, they turn it on. They can then put money on it as they choose, and it's unattached to a bank, liens, etc. Might be a little hard to pay rent/mortage with, but that's likely flexible if they want their money.

Also, admittedly, I have little faith this will be done correctly or without some scam or grift, but the administration has had far worse ideas on a regular basis.

Ah yes, the letter with Trump's signature that should never have been included in the first place.

Maybe it will remind people whose fault all of this is.

Trump bucks!

Wouldn't this cause a bigger problem with theft than sending out checks or direct deposit? I'm sure the USPS is thrilled about the prospect of carrying tens of thousands of debit cards.

I suspect one of their close banking pals made a nice commission off this arrangement.

It's despicable, he's wasted time and government money to hand out cards of government money that bear Trump's name. All so he can claim he is rescuing people from the financial effects of the pandemic. It's a move to promote his campaign for re-election. I don't see how or why, such a thing can be legal.

No snark, and yeah, yeah, you'll do it anyway, but if you don't trust the IRS for direct deposit, why the hell do you even own a computer? You really think your ISP is helping you keep secrets?

Private companies everywhere pay to get your tracking info from your phone carrier. But maybe it's a financial thing. I got a couple of cousins who farked up like that.  I hope you guys eventually can get your money straight.  It's hard not having a bank account.

I got my direct deposit on April 17th. My disabled sister, who hasn't filed taxes in years, and doesn't know how to use a computer  got hers the first week of May. I helped her fill out the form at the IRS website.

My neighbor swore she filed taxes last in 2018. She's on disability now. She is actually angry she hasn't got her money yet.  She could really use it.  She's got a bank account, but it was only after she was approved for disability.

They must be digging deep on some of y'all.

I bet Trump knows all about prepaid debit cards. It's probably how the Russians overpay for Trump branded properties.

Our president couldn't qualify for a secured credit card from a Mexican narcobank.

There's also a monthly fee for just having the damn card.

So if someone uses the card for 4 months or so, that's $5.95 a month taken directly from the card. The best thing to do would be, immediately drain the card of cash, then throw it away. Otherwise, some bank is making nearly $6 a month for your card and every other one that's out there.

Also, Mnuchin talks to Donald Trump like he is some sort of idiot 3-year-old. I'm pretty sure both obtained their brains from a Cracker Jack's box.

Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you President Ralph Wiggum. Well, not really. Ralph isn't evil, just stupid. Trump excels in both fields of study.
