Is it weird that I think the crappy low-res version of this pic is funnier?

Considering how often I'm getting to use it, maybe I should find a few versions.  Not like I'm likely to run out of threads to use them in anytime soon.

I don't believe the covid numbers from any GOP-run state.

At this point, though, even California is reopening.

gunga galunga: I'm sure the Governors of North Carolina and Arizona, just like Texas Governor Gregg Abbott did when he got caught on a hot mic admitting as much, that they knew this is exactly what would happen.

Sorry, peasants. Your Nana and Papa are acceptable losses salvage the economy and by extension, Republicans' re-election chances this November.

And if you think that's bad, for years they have considered your children acceptable losses for their NRA donations.

This is all true. But what does Cuomo gain by killing granny ordering nursing homes to accept covid patients?

Mrs Alt and I drove straight through from Oakland CA to home in North Florida last week, 10-12 took 43 hours.

Once we left CA, pretty much everywhere we stopped for food or gas no one was wearing masks, even in the stores. People hanging out in close groups, store employees not wearing masks. Most of that drive (we took I-40) is Texas, we kept saying to each other that it would interesting to see what the infection numbers would look like in 7-10 days. Guess we know now.

Idiots.

take a look at these pictures.  imagine every human you can see in them is dead.  That's how man Americans have died from this Virus in about 2 1/2 months.   and even if you go by the official numbers, were losing 2 9/11's a week more   minimum

desertratt: A couple of states have already decreased the # of C19 deaths because of over counting, more are to follow.  AZ was up a little, but only because of a 'medical blitz' where a ton of testing was done.  The % of positives to those tested actually went down.

pdieten: pdieten: There was no reason to think the numbers would NOT go up, the question is whether hospital capacity has been or is likely to be exceeded. I don't think we ever planned to be locked down long enough for no one else to get the disease, because it's going to be way too long before we get a vaccine. AFAIK no one was ever planning to be locked down that long.

Which does not mean that anyone should start having big gatherings again, but sensible reopenings really could be in order in some places and under some circumstances.

/fscking forget to preview again

It was also, supposedly, the social equivalent of a "primary immune response" to smack the virus back by brute force and get things "under control" so we'd have time to setup a targetted social adaptive immune response in the form of expanded hospital capacity, development of protocols, and most importantly setting up thorough testing and contact tracing nationwide so we'd be able to pounce on new outbreaks without having to go full President Madagascar.

Thanks to Trump's criminal incompetence, basically none of that happened outside of a relatively few areas run by Democrats that are large enough to do it by themselves.

Which means now we're going cabin crazy and STILL have nothing but a dull cudgel to fight with.

I gotta say... when real actual disinformation and propaganda is being spread that's not only dangerous but is getting more people infected and potentially dying, and your goto reaction is to laugh about it...

I think I'm going to tell you to eat shiat and not take your advice. But thanks.

I'm just guessing that maybe states in the top twenty for cases, new cases, new deaths and deaths should not be re-opening. You might want to keep an eye on those measures of success and failure for a while.

The same goes for countries. In fact, I am so conservative on re-opening, I think Quebec, Ontario, BC and Alberta should avoid it for a few months, just to see where the numbers go and how fast.

I am OK with careful and responsable reopening for anybody who has a record of zero deaths, zero new deaths for a while, zero new cases for a while, and zero cases. So go ahead and reopen bits of remote Canada and the Caribbean. In fact, reopen flights to the Caribbean but ensure that everybody is tested and re-tested, quarantined and re-quarantined if necessary, and also they should not drink too much local booze because some of that stuff is fatal.

Life is not the most important thing for Republicans.

In fact, I would go further and say that life is wasted on essential and deeply ideological conservatives (but not conservatives in name only (CHINOS). Some people are neurologically conservative, and this is not bad nor good. It is a fact and it takes all kinds. Some conservatives and Republians are essentially purple staters and swing voters, so they are OK even if Boomers or Millennials or Generation X, Y, and Z. I don't care for generational guff and labels. I have known way too many people born between 1874 and 2014 or later.

But if you see a False Conservative who is essentially and ideological konservative (or a kon artist) then feel free to point them towards the exit from other people's misery.

It's the Republican way.
Don't get what you want? Blame the Democrats!
Get what you want and it backfires just like every sane person on the planet was telling you it would?  Blame the Democrats!
But whatever you do, never, ever, ever self reflect on what really went wrong and why.

No, see, the democrats say "x terrible thing will happen if you do this". So, when X happens, its because the Democrats made it happen with their socialisms.

Probably not. The new infections from opening will start showing up next week.

Two week incubation is the norm.

Two week incubation is the norm.

And another week or two for it to really show up once the infected start getting tested.

Symptomatic folks followed by mass testing at their place of work or church or wherever will show a hotspot

It's insane - not only are dine-in restaurants open (at 50%), but farking GYMS are, since Friday.  The very first people to go out should be coming down with symptoms between yesterday and tomorrow.  We have almost 15,000 confirmed cases, which means like 150,000 real ones, and 700 reported deaths.

Hawaii, meanwhile, is on the "we're thinking of reopening restaurants in June" phase, and has less total confirmed cases than we have deaths and hasn't reported a new case in four days (when they reported 1).

There's no mask ordinance.  There's fark all for contact tracing.  We're run by a farking death cult.

I just had a Zoom mtg with a relative in Austin, and that sounds consistent. She's livid over so many people ignoring all rules.

And even if they're not riles but guidelines, people with enough room to give her six feet of distance on the sidewalk just ... don't, even if they see her. She thinks it's because she wears a mask. IAC, she says behaviors in pedestrian traffic and grocery shopping are basically the same as they were before Covid-19. 🤬

Same. Memorial day is this coming weekend, and I expect a pretty big spike then.  I'm staying quarnteened until I see the numbers go down. I'm thankful I have a job that allows me to work 100% from home and I will be through the remainder of the year.  I'm beyond pissed that the GOP has left the working men and women of this country out in a lurch by pushing for "reopening" the economy rather than just subsidizing folks in the interim.

Those GOP farkwit assholes squandered the time they had bickering and finger pointing rather than using the DPA to start mass producing PPE and coming up with plan on how to get back to work safely. I haven't voted for a Republican in a while, but I will now actively smear and confront every GOP toadie I meet. The GOP is the party for death, for "fark you I got mine", and against everything that is decent that I was taught growing up.

fark them.
