This is a crushing loss -- man was an absolute farking master, and funny as hell to boot. Grateful to have gotten a chance to see him last summer.

Bummer. A lot of the old Hawaiian slack key guys are passing. I never met Willie K, but my Kumu was a friend of his.

On the bright side, the tradition is being passed on through people like Jeff Peterson, Steven Inglis,
Kawika Kahiapo, and tons of others that learned from the old masters.

RIP Willie K.

We were a better world for having you here. I will always remember a beautiful Sunday years ago as I sat on a surfboard in the water off Waikiki and heard your music, and especially this song, wafting over the waves as you played a sunset gig at Duke's. It was the perfect addition to an already perfect moment and I'm forever grateful. Godspeed Willie.
