I have listened to about half the episodes.  It's an interesting story.  I would encourage anyone who likes investigations and conspiracies to check it out.

Not gonna lie, I absolutely love that song.

Is that song even in the Scorpions own top 5?

A friend of mine was a bellhop at the hotel by Alpine Valley and he hated the Scorpions. Said they were always dickheads when they stayed.

I think the Scorpions may have been ugly enough to write a great rock ballad. Rock music was the only way they got laid.

Was this before or after the CIA was murdering world leaders and toppling legitimate governments to clear the way for American profiteering? During? My guess is during.

Is it true that their English was such shiat early on, that 'Rock you LIke a Hurricane' was sung phonetically?

Frank Zappa was in the CIA?

Maybe he should have helped Warren Zevon.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: Was this before or after the CIA was murdering world leaders and toppling legitimate governments to clear the way for American profiteering? During? My guess is during.

Remember: This is the same organization that suggested or attempted or actually did the following:

Exploding Cuban cigars for Castro
Operation Northwoods (with help from McNamarra and the Joint Chiefs)
Project MK Ultra.

Off the top of my head, Aerosmith has a bunch of power ballads better than that. I'd pick Dream On, Janie, and What It Takes over Winds of Change.  And Crue with Home Sweet Home.

This story is nonsensical tripe, except for the first two paragraphs, which are irrelevant digression.

Scorpions are a top five terrible band.

2020-05-19 5:17:22 PM
Makes sense that The Scorps were a CIA front operation.

That's the only way they could get away with using straight up child pornography on the "Virgin Killers" album cover.

Sure, that's entirely plausible.
Way more plausible than a band who grew up around the Iron Curtain and who already had experience writing power ballads just exploring their own sentiment about the end of a regime that their home country had been waiting decades to see.

Rudolph Schenker would have scored regardless

Damn, if I were growing up in the GDR (aka Best Germany)   in the 80's and the West tried infecting me with Krautrock like the Scorpions, I would have begged for the Berlin Wall to stay standing.

I think there's a Frank Zappa statue somewhere in Vilnius, Lithuania, too.

the Scorpions suck...unless you are into heavily accented vocals sung through entirely through the sinuses.

I'd rather listen to the Scorpions for three days straight, before I'd listen to your tired, overplayed, "classic rock" Vietnam-era soft-served-southern-fried pap.

That song's okay, but I'd say the seminal song for the end of the cold war was:

Frank Zappa did have one song lyric that fits here:

HERE I AM.
ROCK YOU LIKE A NINCOMPOOP.

Also, Frank speaks of his experience trying to work with V. Havel, in his autobiographical "The Real Frank Zappa Book". An excellent read. Basically, the Reagan State Dept. told the Czech's to stop working with Zappa, or else. So I doubt FZ was CIA. (Or maybe that's just what they want me to think.)

I grew up in "worst" Germany in the 70's, so of course I love the Scorps. Well, up through Blackout anyway. Who cares if their lyrics make no sense whatsoever? As far as them being dicks, they were probably just being German. I've only met Michael, and he was perfectly nice, and pretty hammered.

I have never met a German who didn't love hard rock.  I was at a party and cracked wise on Ronnie James Dio, and it made a German dude  sad.  I felt bad about it.

I never associated this song with the fall of the Berlin Wall or Soviet Russia. Maybe because I wasn't in Europe. Maybe because I can't make out what he's singing.

2020-05-19 6:21:11 PM
Considering the song is very bad, even under pop ballad standards, I'm ok with it being written by the CIA or anybody else who wants to take "credit" for that garbage. I'm also ok with never having to hear it again.

Same with every other Scorpions song for that matter but especially Winds of Change.
