At what point does sound remotely appetizing?

Not the only minor league team going that route.

What kind of sub-Thunderbird swill is the "team wine" of a minor league baseball team?

I just want them to redo their Lucha mask promotion.

These are not really Flying Squirrels.  They're people.  And at that, real flying squirrels don't actually fly.  I feel deceived on so many levels.

One of the joys of The Show is being able to play in minor league parks with zany team name shiat like "Flying Squirrels."

The Diamond (the Flying Squirrels home park here in Richmond) is a complete dump though. It's one of the reasons we lost the AAA Braves like a decade ago.

To be fair, had the Braves built a replacement park, and not asked the tax payers to do it, the Braves would likely still be here. Unfortunately for the Braves, or fortunately depending on how you look at it, they asked a region full of uncooperative localities to fund a new ballpark and it went nowhere.

For however much longer we have minor league baseball. MLB will kill it and ruin small towns everywhere while we worry about the virus.

Yes it is...

Although I'm glad that Richmond didn't build a new stadium by the river (or in Carytown)...ugh...

And I meant to say earlier, but forgot to do so, that I never knew how much of a dump The Diamond is* until I went to another minor league baseball stadium (down in Norfolk).  After that, I was like, "wow...the Diamond is horrible compared to this..."

*I knew it was just a bunch of concrete and ugly but...

Wasn't the original planned site somewhere in the Bottom?

Yep. down near the Farmer's Market at 17th street.

Well, it's dead for this year, but that's not unexpected.

There's no reason for MLB to kill it.  The players work nearly for free (seriously, player salaries for anything below AAA is below minimum wage); the cost to the MLB is minimal.  Now, not quite as good a deal as football and basketball have with colleges, where the players really do play for free, but, meh.

It is funny you say that as Columbus' old AAA park, Cooper Stadium, was universally considered a dump. I only went there as a kid for Boy Scouts stuff and that is the only minor league park I saw until I was an adult so I don't think of Cooper Stadium as a dump because it is all relative.

Late to reply but my wife mentioned that the stadium in Norfolk had been upgraded since she went there previously.  So it's nicer now but yeah, it's all relative/perspective I guess.  :)

It doesn't help that The Diamond has pretty much nothing around it that's worth seeing or going to (beyond the Bow Tie cinemas, and/or Gelati Celesti).
