It contains a Doppler sensor that monitors a user's respiration rate and pulse,

Plus it can tell you if you're about to go nimbostratus in the bathroom.

Can I pre-order yet?  I have a 22-year-old that still hasn't mastered basic hygiene, and his room smells like a gym locker after a sumo wrestler did a 2-your session of hot yoga and stashed his clout in there for a week.

I dont think what the 22 year old living with his parents needs is another gaming system

Why on earth would you ever want to pre-order anything? I'm surprised that credit card companies don't explicitly forbid the practice.

Yeah, I have to laugh at people that pre-order. Why are video game players so willing to give another company their own money, for nothing?

Is it THAT important to have the hardware on the first day? It's bizarre.

The only thing I ever actually pre-ordered was Diablo 3.  I bet you know how that went.  Please don't take my humor (however poorly delivered) and hold it against me.

Very true, but as I don't as of yet have the heart to kick him out with his (actually diagnosed, yet admittedly minor) autism and type 1 diabetes, I would gladly suffer a compromise between verbal abuse when suggesting bathing/cleaning/laundering and suffering the result of my aversion to the verbal abuse.

(I will think harder before attempting humor again.)

they have big flops in there too though, the easy example being the virtual boy I suppose, or rob.

Virtual Boy and the Wii U cratered.  Rob was never a stand alone IIRC, it was sold as part of the set.  Not many games were released for it, but financially it didn't do poorly.

The thing with Nintendo is since the release of the original gameboy they have always had (at least) two current systems on the market.

kinda poor so it makes more sense to basically pay ahead of time in a kind of layaway practice so I don't end up having to eat Ramen Noods once a day for a payperiod

I've told this story on Fark before, but I went to GameStop (there's my problem) to get some new Mario game that had just come out (I don't remember which).
They asked me if I pre-ordered.
I told them I didn't.
They told me then they couldn't sell me a copy, they only had physical copies for pre-orders.
They said they could "order" one for me.
I said "I can walk, literally next door to Target and buy one!"
They said "Go ahead!"

I did

The Wii was a decent idea, but Nintendo royally screwed the pooch on third-party support with the way they handled dev kits.

The Switch couldn't have existed without the Wii U as a trial run. It was a commercial failure, but it was absolutely an essential iteration on the hardware that led to the Switch.

How so?  The wii-u form factor has little to do with the switch.  The controller? Maybe, but it wasn't able to run independently.  Honestly the Ds has more in common with the switch in my mind.
