Tens of thousands of them have been working full-time since early March on a wide range of sensitive and dangerous tasks, such as decontaminating nursing homes and setting up field hospitals, along with performing tests for the virus. They've provided a crucial backup for understaffed and underfunded state public health agencies trying to contain the pandemic.

And they think this entitles them to benefits?!?

Takers.

He's suppressing COVID numbers at VA facilities, effectively ensuring no one at one dies from it.

Exactly.  And in his pea brain, he holds the belief that if it's ignored it doesn't exist.

It's the insane logical conclusion to drinking Norman Vincent Peale's kool aid.

You can always count on republicans to hate the military except when their state gets funding for pork barrel projects.

Exactly! It always comes down to money with these peasants.  Now check out these pics of my new yacht; it's 2' longer than Thad's for only $10000 more!

Pretty much.

Let's go back to Vietnam, when a certain young John Kerry 'gave testimony that may have not been accurate' and helped fan the flames against American troops and hippies were spitting on returning soldiers.

Then employers wouldn't hire them because 'they lost the war'.  The spitting hippies were not the employers.  The older folks, frequently Republicans, were the employers, 'protecting their image' by refusing employment to Vietnam vets.

Coming back to now, under the Trump administration, the VA gets to report lower veteran suicide rates... by not counting folks that served in the National Guard and also in some military careers.  Thus, the pressure to do something about the suicide rate is now less of a priority, right?

So those that are ok with Trump winning again because Biden isn't perfect, here's another crime we'd allow to 'win' if Trump remains in office.

I didn't see much follow-up, but there were stories like this around 2006 or so too. National Guard units were deployed to Iraq for exactly 729 days so that they wouldn't qualify for GI Bill benefits.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Republicans love the military for the raw power and patriotism it displays, and they love shoveling money to defense contractors, but they don't give a sh*t about the troops.

This is how Trump and other fine businessmen treat their employees so why is there any surprise.  Think of the money the government will save.  Reminds me of a former employer who gave one week paid vacation to any employee who had worked full time for 6 months.  Come 5 1/2 months their hours were cut so they would not qualify for the vacation time.

Ah, the illusion of the Republican support for the military. Sorry, troops, they don't GAF about you, it's the Military Industrial Complex that they get boners over. Scumbags.

You know, it's entirely possible Trump thinks this is all literally money coming out of his pocket.

Which, considering how much grift he's running, it's entirely a possibility.

You know they just mobilized entirely on their own to attend to this hoax crisis and make Trump look bad.  And now they want to pick our pockets for doing so.

Service should guarantee benefits

It's been over 19 years since I've retired from the military so I might not be remembering correctly, but I think cutting off the short term deployments for guard and reserve personnel just before benefits kicked in was pretty much par for the course.

America loves them.  We appreciate their hard work and sacrifice.

Especially that last part, it implies they gave up stuff for is, should we ruin their noble sacrifices by debasing it with 'payments ' or 'benefits '?

I should think not. Yes, noble sacrifice is its own reward

Thank you brave sacrificers

As i said before, Republicans wanted the government to be run like a businesses well this is how you run a business. Get the most possible out of your employees while giving the least you can. I'm sure if it was possible Trump would work them an additional 23 hours and 59 minutes.

He also insulted and denigrated them. And replaced valuable officers with toadies. So there's that.

FTFA: "The goal here is not to hurt Guardsmen."

Then why cut the deployment at 89 days when 24 states have requested extensions?  Oh, that sentence is just missing an ONLY.

Very true but we currently have one (1) CiC who claims to "love the military more than anyone else." And this cannot be a mistake or oversight as the current CiC claims to know "more about the military than the generals."

/so no, BSAB does not apply here
