Gyrfalcon:

That was in mid-January. Nobody else knew anything about it except the doctors in China. There is no reason to think they were deliberately lying.

On December 30, Li Wenliang alerted a WeChat group that it appeared that there were 7 confirmed cases of SARS at Huanan Seafood Market.  He later alerted the group that the infections were coronavirus infections that were in the process of being subtyped.  Given this knowledge, it was safe to assume that human-to-human transmission was possible, if not likely, based upon past instances of viruses of this type.  Therefore, he advised his friends and family to take protective measures.

The Taiwanese government advised the WHO of evidence of human-to-human transmission of the virus on December 31.

The Chinese government censured Li Wenliang on January 3.

On January 14, the WHO issued a statement saying that there was no evidence of human-to-human transmission.

To say that nobody else knew is wrong.  Taiwan knew.  The WHO knew.  The WHO failed to act.

If only there had been another pandemic response team in China, perhaps from a large wealthy nation, that could have independently assessed those claims and determined their veracity.

Perhaps a large wealthy nation that funds 20% of the budget of the World Health Organization would expect that the World Health Organization would, you know, independently assess those claims and determine their veracity.  The mission of the WHO is supposedly in the name.  The WHO carried China's bucket of lies to the world stage and people have died as a result of its failure to do what it's supposed to do.

Too bad Trump had fired all our responders in China, so we had to wait till the epidemic hit America.

Stop lying.

So what do you want China to do?

Northern: vygramul: "The World Health Organization consistently ignored credible reports of the virus spreading in Wuhan in early December 2019 or even earlier, including reports from the Lancet medical Journal."

SO LET ME ASK YOU, TRUMP, YOU FARK, WHAT WAS ***YOUR*** REACTION TO THE LANCET'S WARNING, YOU GIANT FARKING TURD?

The Economist was also following the outbreak on the reg.
I am also going to go out on a limb here;   US intelligence informed #45 as soon as the infection started.  The President did nothing.  He is 100% to blame for the severity of the response and flaming right wing morons and anti-government types despite the fact that he is in fact responsible and is the face of the government.
/help! help! Big meanie Pelosi is oppressing me!!!!!

Definitely do not disagree. People keep saying that the media downplayed the threat (now - they used to say it was hysterical). But my reply is that the farking president doesn't get his farking information from the farking media. So you're right. 45 was told by our organic intel capability the score and he chose to ignore it because the leadership and the rank and file both have to live in the same fantasy ideology - in this case, the US is Great and nothing's wrong.

And here's the other line of attack from Trump: "China lied and you, WHO, should have known better." But if WHO should have known China was lying, shouldn't the US, and Trump, have? It STILL can't be blamed on WHO.
