those rubes that visit are the same yokels that think it's all a big hoax and all they want are bright lights to dazzle them and olive garden to make them feel like they're eating real new york italian food with the reassuring comfort of the same chain they ate at before they came

I remember a hilarious article from years ago where the author tried popular things like Dean Koontz novels and what not. he went to a red lobster and was apparently underdressed. he was in jeans and people in their best Bugle Boy chinos were giving him the side-eye because they thought of red lobster as a 'fancy' restaurant.

when I go to NYC I like getting hot dogs from a cart, pizza from the place on the corner, etc. but there is no way I am getting on a plane in the next year, I get sick every time I fly. it is almost like recycling the air in a closed space for hours means one sick person can infect everyone else. thanks but nope.

Yeah, you can open your states and cities as much as you want, but if the people don't want to come out there's nothing you can do about it.

I'm hoping to get f*cked by some local RNA viruses. Fingers crossed!

The muggers have a LOT of catching up to do, so bring cash and be sure to write your PIN on your ATM card.

What's the matter New York?
Not enough people crowded into Rockefeller rink?

You reopen now and that rink will be full of people, in 2 weeks. Morgue overflow.

I'd recommend the Italian Margaritas.

No no, the government built all those temporary hospitals to handle the overflow.

The air in a plane is completely replaced roughly every 4 minutes (15x/hour) and passes through HEPA filters. It won't stop the droplets that a child sneezes directly into your face, but it's not like you're sitting in everyone's stale breath for 8 hours.

And this article has it at 20x/hour and notes that it is recirculated faster than in an office building. So maybe think twice before going to work...

The mrs and I were thinking it'd be cool to just drive into Manhattan a couple weeks back (about a 2hr ride). Been there 100s of times, but it would have been cool to see it EMPTY (and take some pics). Weren't going to do anything, just wanted to check it out.

/didn't go

There's no point in going to NYC if the fun spots aren't open.

And by "fun spots," I mean "bars in the Lower East Side."

Too late, traffic is already picking up. On the other hand, I've taken a cab on Christmas morning from Brooklyn (lived by the Brooklyn Bridge, it was sport to raise my arm when the light changed to watch cabs race to not have an empty fare back) to the upper East Side. Ten minutes. It was awesome.
