FTA: In 1970, Osmond joined the LAPD and was an officer until he retired in 1988. During one incident, he was shot at 5 times ... 4 of the bullets hit his bulletproof vest and the fifth ricocheted off his belt buckle.

O.K., I had not known that.

I saw a paranormal show where he recalled the incident he pulled into a fire station to use the restroom and something told him to put on his vest he wasn't wearing because it was too hot out. He was shot soon after.

Technically?  Probably not, but, dude, when you get hit by 5 bullets that were stopped by body armor and a belt buckle....

I'll allow it (adjusts sombrero).

Along with Jerry Stiller, they played a couple of the all-time great secondary sitcom characters. Eddie Haskell was the devil on your shoulder that we all had growing up. We all had a friend like that.

I would say yes

I bet it hurt like hell, and he probably had some bruising underneath the armor

During his teenage years, my brother would go into Eddie Haskell-mode whenever he was talking with our parents' friends; that overly polite unctuousness to the point of blatant insincerity. It became a running joke among them until it embarrassed our parents enough that they finally had to tell them to knock it off.

"Gosh, Mrs Cleaver. Why if that isn't the best potato salad I ever had in my life."
"Cut the shiat, Eddie."

Soft body armor stops the bullets by taking the energy of the bullets and spreading it along the fibers in the vest layers. He probably had at least serious bruises. Still better than having the bullets penetrate, but imagine five blows to the torso with a cast iron frying pan swung very fast.

Eddie Haskell was an asshole most of the time. Most of my favorite LITB episodes are those in which he got called out for his assholish behavior.

He wasn't unredeemable, though.  He'd acknowledge that he was a jerk and then sort of make it up to whoever (usually Wally).  He and Hugh Beaumont often had the best lines.

Thanks for the post. I used that urban legend as my headline submission. But it was too obscure. Some thought Alice Cooper died until they read the article.

/So it goes.

Edd Byrnes (pictured up thread with the comb) died earlier this year.  Kookie on 77 Sunset Strip, another iconic character from that era.  At least he made it well into his 80s.  Reaching the end at 76 and dealing with COPD is really too bad.

RIP Mr. Osmond
