Sweet Movie

/not gonna try to describe it.
//It fits the category.

Way to leave out one of the most inspiring revolution movies ever made:

WTF?  Is the author 17? Did she do an IMDB search for "revolution movies" and then sort by most recent?

Spartacus
The Battleship Potemkin
Lawrence of Arabia
Metropolis

2020-05-18 6:44:41 AM

Farking Clown Shoes: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
GTFO!

In the writer's defense, that final trilogy did destory a lot of people's anticipation about ever returning to that universe again.

The fact that it is a Gizmondo article should have been a big farking clue that at no single point is journalism, effort, or intelligence, involved in the product.

Hopefully after watching revolutionary movies, all the would be Patrick Henry's on one side and the would be Che's on another side, will come to the realization that they are mostly whiny little  *&$*@%#s rather than horrible oppressed heroic fighters of the man.

But most, no, all will just say "I'm going to overthrow the system, right after I watch another movie, eat a frozen burrito and take a dump".

Picked the second-worse Robin Hood film ever.

I mean, it's got oar-powered Higgins boats in it, and it blatantly violates the fark out of Chekhov's Gun, but at least it's not the Kevin Costner version.

Of course, if you want the real thing, nothing beats this:

GTFO!

The saddest part is that the original trilogy, especially the first film, really fits the bill perfectly.

Also I should point out that Olivia de Havilland, who played Maid Marian in The Adventures of Robin Hood back in 1938 is still alive at 103 years old.

I say we drink the effort, eat the intelligence, and use the journalism for musket wadding.

I would've added Fight Club over most of the list.

I *WAS* going to say you should watch this one:

But you have to turn it off at about the time they liberate the re-education camp at the local drive-in theater, because they start losing after that, and end up suffering 80% KIA by the end of the film, and the only two who survive do so by running away.

Also, despite the "happy ending" that studio insisted that John Milius tack on the end, you don't really know if the US is completely victorious, you only know that the area around Calumet is back in US hands again.

[last lines]
Erica : [closing narration]  I never saw the Eckert Brothers again. In time, this war - like every other war - ended. But I never forgot. And I come to this place often, when no one else does.

[we see "Partisan Rock," with its memorial plaque, which she reads for us]

Erica : "... In the early days of World War 3, guerillas - mostly children - placed the names of their lost upon this rock. They fought here alone and gave up their lives, so that this nation should not perish from the earth."

Notice it doesn't say that the US was completely victorious.

Salvador
The Battle for Algiers
1900
Gandhi
Persepolis
If...
The Dreamers
Doctor Zhivago
Bananas

Not a movie but the miniseries John Adams (currently streaming on Prime) is excellent as well.

That doesn't really count.  It's not a "revolutionary" movie, in that it's not about overthrowing an established entity.

Unless, of course, you look at it from the point of view of the alien invaders.

This one was missing from the list:

I watched that movie about a thousand times when I was little.  When we got our first VCR a friend of the family gave us a pirated tape with Robin Hood, The Court Jester and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers.  I still have it somewhere.  Had to order it on blu-ray a couple years ago because I missed it.
