This post by me was about the hackers wanting 42 mil...
God? have my prayers been answered?
Jesus, "hold a cup of coffee above your head and let it go" "Now boy if it flees upward, then yes my child, I have listened and helped you, my own special child. If your head gets burnt and soaked, verily I say unto you, Fark you" "These things are not my problem, fix em your own farking self!"  "Go forth and hack after you get outa the hospital, to your hearts content."
"Blessings be to the burnt of heart"

Told that the Capitol physician suggests wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible, Yoho cited no need because of "herd immunity."

Once again I have to say if this moron gets it I will have no sympathy for his science-ignoring ass.  And at the same time will for the other people he unwittingly infects.

This is genuinely one of the funniest things I've read today. He learned a phrase that sounds all sciency and he's just vainly hoping that it makes sense in the context in which he's using it. He literally has no idea what that term means, does he?

He meant to say "reverse polarity."  He's not Polish, so his reverse Polarity makes him immune.

Asked if he thinks he's protected by herd immunity, Yoho said: "I think the only way you're going to get it is to get exposed."

If anyone cares to read between the lines, this is basically him admitting that among the GOPniks that admit that this virus exists, it's only something that effects "those people"

You can't pray at home? Why does it need to be in a church? Aren't there services for shut-ins on TV?

nijika: Herd immunity isn't a thing without vaccines.  Somebody shoulda told him.

I mean, herd immunity existed before vaccines, problem was getting there. Looking at COVID all we have to do is get about 90% of the population to get the disease, after that about 3% to 6% of that 90% die, boom, herd immunity, no vaccine required. Not enough hosts for the virus to jump to so it burns itself out finally.

It could come back but not for at least a generation or until it mutates enough again to be deadly.

This was how our species survived before we got vaccines, namely, a lot of people didn't.

For some reason America has elected this path to get there instead of the simpler option, starve it of hosts.

That assumes the virus doesn't evolve and reinfect those already infected.

Because they think it's more profitable in the short term to pretend it doesn't matter anymore.

Remember: the addict doesn't think about the next year. They only think about the next fix.

That only applies if those who get it and survive build up an immunity to it.  There is evidence that isn't happening.

There's nothing to worry about. They want you to wear a mask because they want you to be afraid. The TRUTH is that this coronervirus is very easy to prevent. all you need is to drink a large bottle of apple cider vinegar then activate it within you by quickly swallowing three tablespoons of ordinary baking soda.

100% immunity guaranteed. Someone tell Trump.

If they pray at home, they can't flaunt how much money they can't make the other women envious by showing off their new wardrobe.
That's really all church is to them. Just a convenient excuse to humblebrag.

I am quite certain that if there weren't enforced legal consequences for it, the Modern American Grunting Arsehole would poo-poo the Nancys who used turn signals in their cars.  They'd remove them from their own cars with a knife to 'show you'.  Like my late RON PAUL father who refused seat belts for most of his life.  Largely because some busybody was "telling him to", though he'd cage it in terms of an anecdote of a friend of a friend...

Which it does. My educated guess is that the various strains are so prevalent that sure, you for the NY version but that won't do shiat for the West Coast version.

Early research is promising in that it doesn't seem to mutate like Influenza A/B.

In my part of the world, the kiddie fiddlers are saying stay the fark at home and use zoom on Sunday. Meanwhile, the prosperity gospel coonts are saying they will hold a service. One is clearly asking for a tax audit, the other is not.

Sigh...

Yes...

I guess we all must go through a phase.  Hopefully socialization will show, at least after the next expected spike, that there is some value to society.

Perhaps this one prepares us for the next, worse one...

I mean... it is.  But ... it ain't pretty.  Think... what does herd immunity to Malaria look like? (hint: Sickle Cell Anemia).  Without active human intervention, allowing nature to build up herd immunity for us will work, eventually.  But we won't like the cost.

Doh. Post fail. What I was trying to post is that 3% to 6% sounds a little high for the IFR (infection fatality rate) but is in range for the case fatality rate (CFR). The IFR is probably around 1% or maybe a little less. That's why the study out of the UK predicted ~2 million deaths in the US if we basically let the virus run its course. But your point is absolutely right, the way to achieve herd immunity (for a virus with a large R0 value) is for almost everyone to get the virus. And that's true of course only if a prior infection confers immunity.

Hey, Republicans! Did you know that not only is Covid-19 a liberal hoax, but so is getting a flu shot, and eating a balanced diet, and wearing a seatbelt, and looking both ways before crossing the street. It's true! In fact, any simple common sense thing you can do which will help you lead a safer and healthier life is in fact a liberal hoax.
