So if I understand this correctly, while this guy is a steaming pile, Trump is throwing him under the bus because this guy wants the truth about Russian interference in Trump's election to come out.
Is that about right?

The fact that Burr was targeted by the FBI while nothing (yet) has happened to Loeffler, even though she sold an estimated 5-10x more, makes me believe they're targeting him for either this reason or another.

Now I'm fine with Burr getting burned because he's overall a terrible person, but let's see Loeffler (whose husband is chairman of NYSE) come under the gun as well.

Strike that, reverse it.

Burr is trying to get the truth about Russian interference in Trump's election to come out because Trump is throwing him under the bus.

So this is where Trump's party purges it's own in order to solidify their party core. Didn't this happen in 1934 as well? Oh well, when in Röhm.

I'm not a republican and I'm not defending them as a group.  However, do you seriously think that politicians of any ilk are better?  Some, for the time being, may support policies that you agree with but don't think for a second that those very same politicians wouldn't sell you and those ideals up the river if they thought they could personally benefit.

Someone theorized the end goal was to replace him as Committee Chair with someone father up Trump's butt.

I can't imagine this is the Trump administration trying to distance themselves from the sin of stock manipulation.

I really hate to defend her, but making a case against Loeffler is going to be really hard because she & her husband are so stupid rich that even the enormous amount that they sold was only 0.6% of their total holdings while Burr sold a very substantial portion of his portfolio.   If you get inside information about a pandemic and then sell all the things you are likely in a world of poop with the SEC but if you get inside information about a pandemic and then sell a tiny bit of what you own there is a very good defense that it may just be normal transactions that you were going to do anyways.

Martha Stewart was estimated to have saved $40-60K by selling ImClone stock the day before they announced they couldn't get FDA approval. Her net worth was about $650M at the time. She saved about .009% of her net worth.

She got 10 months for it.

Martha Stewart was convicted of lying to the FBI, not insider trading.

Which circles directly to my original post that Loeffler hasn't even had the opportunity to lie to the FBI because she hasn't been questioned. Your argument was her trades were a fraction of her net worth so it's not important and easy to hide (or lie about), my point was Martha's trading was an even smaller fraction and yet she was investigated.

I've made this point before: Republicans may value the party over the country, but they value self above everything else, including the party. They may appear to be lockstep, but they will snitch and rat on each other the moment they can seize some additional power or throw someone else under the bus.

That's why I said that Biden should give the appearance of "buddying up" with Romney on occasion, and D's should (temporarily) give kudos to Burr in public. As the previous poster says, let them fight.
