But this is why we have Dungeons & Dragons - so society's untouchables can be kept out of sight in basements around the world - and surely it wouldn't be so difficult to videoconference a tabletop campaign away from the prying eyes of normies.

"Assault rifle fun police" is the name of my Village People tribute band.

We carry assault rifles and perform exclusively for hostages.

They let him go because they didn't want to attempt to spell his Welsh name on the report.

'Um, this form is only 8-1/2" wide. His name won't fit on it.'

Now, see, in the US, you could in theory carry a real sword.  It says "right to keep and bear arms", not "right to keep and bear *FIRE*arms".

And honestly, I think carrying swords should be encouraged.  Was a time when no well-heeled gentleman would appear in public without a sword.

In saying that you can't carry a sword, but carrying a handgun or even a rifle is OK, you'd have to make the extremely silly argument that a sword is significantly more dangerous than the typical firearm carried for self-defense and therefore needs to be banned.   This is laughable on its face.

I never really looked into it, but I just did and apparently it's not illegal to carry a sword in most of NYS, with NYC, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse being the notable exceptions.

So I guess I have a real reason to polish the sword now.....

It's been a few decades - dovetailed with the time where the focus was more on ability checks against Charisma, leading to worsening armor classes, if you know what I mean.

King Arthur: The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite, held aloft Excalibur from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Arthur, was to carry Excalibur. That is why I am your king.

Mind you, as a methodology, it does sound a less likely target of foreign "meddling" than a certain upcoming election........

I am a stone.

I do not move.

Very slowly, I put snow in my mouth. Then he won't see my breath.

I take my time. I let him come closer.

I have only one bullet. I aim at his eye.

Very gently, my finger presses on the trigger. I do not tremble. I have no fear.

I'm a big boy now.

Ready Vassili?

Now, Vassili, fire!

Not necessarily.

In CA, for example, you carry a gun in public, but a club or nailbat is against the law.

The term "fancy dress" is the most British term I've ever seen.  Took me quite awhile to figure out that that basically meant "costume party" the first time I encountered it.

Most modern stuff isn't designed with the idea that people would be wearing swords.  I'm pretty sure I couldn't fit in the bucket seat of my car while wearing a cavalry saber--there just isn't enough space for the saber to go anywhere that'd make any sense.[0]  Chairs with arms and sofas would have similar problems.  I guess this is one reason why chairs were less common in the medieval/Renaissance periods.

What about daggers?  Much easier to deal with, if not quite as flashy.

[0] 2003 Hyundai Tiburon, there's not a lot of spare space anywhere.  If I were taller than 182cm, I basically wouldn't fit in the driver's seat.
