If?  Try "when".

Also, he'll be backseat driving the entirety of the next administration. It's up to the press to just ignore him once he's out of office.

I think the simple answer to this question is that Trump saying something on Twitter does not make for official election results.

Whether he does it on Twitter, the news, Fox, OANN, or anywhere else, of course he is going to declare victory no matter what.  Even if he loses in a landslide.

But none of that will change the actual election results.

I'm just going to keep saying this. Trump saying he doesn't accept the election results is one of the least dangerous scenarios for this election. Trump doesn't have any power over the Electoral college and his consent is meaningless. The much more dangerous issues are Republicans suppressing votes and outright rigging elections.

They really should ban him if they had any morals. It won't change the fact that the GOP is trying to kill us all, but it would be nice if we could just ignore trump while they do so.

The difference is Presidential elections are run by the states, not the corrupt Trump administration.

It's a legitimate concern. I don't see a full spread civil war, but if Trump loses we'll definitely see pockets of violence for awhile after.

He'll be the first president to not call the victor, he'll be the first president to not publicly concede the election. He'll talk out if both sides of his mouth denouncing violence, but calling it a rigged election, and saying the protesters are very good people.

This whole timeline is a nightmare.

Jan. 20, 2021, 12:01pm, someone instructs the secret service there is a civilian trespasser in the Oval Office/ White House who needs to escorted off the grounds.

SoupGuru: You guys are cute, thinking there's going to be an election.

We had a presidential election during a Civil War, pretty sure we can figure out a way to handle a pandemic.

Constitutionally Trump and Pence's terms end at noon on January 20, 2021. The cabinet is also out the door that day. The terms of the House and 1/3 of the Senate end on January 1, 2021. Outside a coup by Trump, if there is no election and no House, the powers of the presidency go to the next person in the line of succession in the Senate. That wouldn't be Moscow Mitch because he is out on Jan 1 if there are no election. I'm not exactly sure how that would work but the most senior senator not up for reelection this fall appears to be Patrick Leahy (D-Vt).

Remember that time WikiLeaks encouraged Trump Jr. to encourage his dad not to concede if he lost in 2016?

WikiLeaks didn't write again until Election Day, November 8, 2016. "Hi Don if your father 'loses' we think it is much more interesting if he DOES NOT conceed [sic] and spends time CHALLENGING the media and other types of rigging that occurred-as he has implied that he might do," WikiLeaks wrote at 6:35pm, when the idea that Clinton would win was still the prevailing conventional wisdom. (As late as 7:00pm that night, FiveThirtyEight, a trusted prognosticator of the election, gave Clinton a 71 percent chance of winning the presidency.) WikiLeaks insisted that contesting the election results would be good for Trump's rumored plans to start a media network should he lose the presidency. "The discussion can be transformative as it exposes media corruption, primary corruption, PAC corruption, etc.," WikiLeaks wrote.

Would Fox News as a company be on board with it? I don't know about that. Sure, the most sycophantic of the Trumphumpers may be screaming "coup", like Client #3, Frau Ingraham, and Judge Lush, but I kinda suspect that Rupert Murdoch is tired of his network being a cheerleader to a pathetic moron and would be glad to switch the narrative to focusing on how Joe Biden is an even worse President that Obama.

Those things are very different and it's really tiring seeing people try to use them to justify "Trump can do anything". It allows people to pretend Trump is some sort of dangerous outlier and ignore that the problem is that America is a failed state.

Let me know when Trump has his "Mr. Marshall has made his decision. Now let him enforce it" moment.

It's also really stupid to keep repeating this nonsense because Trump wants there to be an election. He's certain that Republican vote suppression efforts will just make him win. And the pandemic is a bonus, since the maga chuds either think the virus isn't real or don't care if they die voting for Trump.

The coup by Trump and his supporters will be a success. Who will stop him? Law enforcement and the military are overrun with white supremacists. I can't even recall the last time I saw a cop in the news that wasn't a roided out skinhead.

Johnson screwed the pooch with Vietnam, so he didn't seek a second term.  Trump could not have farked up the virus response any more if he tried (he didn't try, at all), and now Trump has nothing to run on.

The states run the elections. It's hard to see how Trump could stop them, especially since he's far too lazy to follow through on whatever plan COULD do it.

The bigger problem is going to be that they will run, the pandemic will be back, and either vote-by-mail will not have been implemented or implemented in a completely deficient way so that people end up having to vote in person or not have their votes counted, so the election is seen as broadly illegitimate regardless of the outcome.

Correct. Also, if there is no election, Donnie gets evicted at noon on 1/20/21. It would not be in his interest to cancel the election even if he could. No election means no chance at all for another four years of grifting.

This

For all the ideals any country has it all boils down to who's willing to fight for their world view more.

One 1/3 will fight for American values, 1/3 will fight against Americans values and 1/3 will stay home.

President Lysol's base is and always will be 1/3
The revolutionary war was won by 1/3 of  colonialists.

Trump "refusing to leave" has been one of Bill Maher's mantras for years now. I'd swear he's asked virtually every guest he's had on "what's the plan?" When he declares the election a fraud and refuses to leave. Most of the time, people have kinda laughed him off.
One conservative talk show host (can't remember his name) flat out said the GOP would drag Trump out if he did that. Maher didn't believe him.
