Maybe they can alert amnesty international while they are there.

It's not that we've forgotten about them, it's that this Administration is actively looking to deny Native Americans of any sort aid. The only Indians that they like come from Asia, and have their faces firmly tucked to the buttocks of the GOP.

"Forgotten" is not the right word to use here, because it implies the government had any intention of helping them.

And they'll never make it out of the airport

This administration? Try all administrations.

Coordinated genocide for 100's of years, but now Native Americans  can own casinos; so I guess it's all good now?

They're a sovereign nation.  That comes with the good and the bad.  This tribe in particular has also been putting up roadblocks to stop non-indians from entering their sovereign nation.  Which, fine, that's their perogative.

But it's a real scummy thing to act like a sovereign nation, enforce your borders, keep people out, and then cry because you're not receiving aid that you are not entitled to.

That explains why Donnie hates them so much. They run successful casinos.

Maybe they can come to Adair and Sequoyah county Oklahoma next.

So is it anything like this?

2020-05-14 4:06:06 PM
Let that sink in for a moment.

Doctors Without Borders, The International group that sends Medical Care to Third World Nations has sent a team here so that the Native Americans that have been forgotten once again can receive the life-saving care that they need.

Just let that sink in for a while and then try and tell me how things are okay.

If anything they are more deserving of the best care without question because we are the reason they are in the situation they are in. I can't think of a treaty that we have honored in the history of our nation. This is also a group that we tried to commit genocide against.

We didn't forget them. We're deliberately screwing them over.

I mean, it's not like we decided that sending them none of the $8 billion put aside for COVID-19 assistance weeks after it was approved constitutes an "unreasonable delay." It's not like the folks administering that money are now under ethics investigations because it appears that Alaskan Native Corporations may be screwing everyone else over and that the administrators came from one, so we had to step in and deliberately exclude them. And it's not like we so totally farked this up that the best word we can use to describe what the Treasury Department's doing is "flailing."

I mean, c'mon. We've always handled Native American sovereignty with the utmost respect and cooperation.

I'm a regular contributor to DSF (the acronym they're known for internationally).  Last year, they had a kind of "meet and greet" in L.A. wherein they gave a presentation on where and how our contributions are used, and the work they do.  It was really insightful.

I recall that someone asked a question about why they don't do any work inside the U.S. - I believe the person referenced our homeless issue here in L.A. - and the DSF speaker said that while they understand that there are challenges in the U.S., they felt many of our problems stem more from a lack of commitment to solving issues and needs than the resources on hand to meet the issues and needs.  The operate in areas where the resources are lacking, first and foremost.

/I'm guessing that's changed now?

I'm not fan of Trump, that's for DAMN sure, and my posting history will bear that out, but read the article you posted again - its a little more complicated than that, and even the head of the Indian Health Board in the article says it was a mistaken shipment, and they had received PPE supplies in the past and did again after those body bags arrived. Also, she admits that FEMA offered help with testing, but logistics made it unfeasible.

Yeah it was a macabre sequence of events, but not quite the "message" that you portray it as. Its looks more like clusterfark than cruelty.

Greg Proops, some 12 years, cracked a relevant joke on Mock the Week, during the Obama campaign on how he was "surprised Haiti didn't invade us to install a democracy" after two terms of Dubya - having Doctors Without Borders show up in America because the Navajos are suffering so badly kind of feels like that:

We, as a country, should be ashamed - instead, I'm betting that more than a few Republicans are enjoying the fact that they've managed to save the federal government some money while working on "the Indian problem."

Shame? My worst fear is that they're patting themselves on the back for how it's going. Didn't spend the money, so like any other VP that received an $8B budget but returned almost $4B back, they're probably up for a promotion and a performance bonus, FFS. Never mind the white supremacists and white nationalists in the Trump administration, cheering that they've been able to watch the Native Americans suffer without having to even lift a finger to contribute to it - indeed, doing nothing is going gangbusters for GOP Whitey.

Why would they feel shame? They're getting what they want.

Not sure who smarted you're post, but ignoring the racist overtones of it you are also incorrect in your assumptions.  The US Government deals with tribes much like they do with States in our Federated system.  Similarly, because of the special relationship with tribes, Native Americans enjoy certain federal benefits and are absolutely US citizens (see the Indian Citizenship Act of 1924)

Yeah, I think you're thinking of the Sioux tribes in North Dakota who have set up roadblocks, that their governor is farking with.  It turns out that Navajo aren't Sioux!  Who knew that?  Not you, you dumbfark.

And even if they did I think anything remotely involved with medical help would get an armed escort to where help was needed.  BTW as of a week ago the Irish citizens raised 8 million to payback the Navajo who sent them aid during the potato famine. Say what you want about the Mc's bad memory isn't one of their problems.

Now hold on a second, he almost has a point. It is double-dipping of a kind, almost chutzpah to demand to be recognized as a completely sovereign, independent entity while also simultaneously asking for handouts because they ... aren't? What does that make them, Schrodinger's Tribes?

I'm not saying we shouldn't give the aid freely and in excess, we should! I'm not saying they shouldn't ask; they should. I'm not saying "we" the rest of the country who are not Native descendants don't have an obligation to the first peoples that we colonized after the Spanish almost wiped them out: we do.

But that really is trying to have your cake and eat it too, on paper, anyway.

As for you, Russian ᏄᎾ , do understand that the first people are still AMERICANS and also still technically sovereign at the same time. Despite the audacity of it, they still deserve it. Our obligation of reparations will never end with them.
