Thanks for posting this, I always make a point of going to this museum when I'm in Philadelphia but I've never actually taken a guided tour.

I've loved going there since my first time when I was ~11yo. There's a dive bar about a half block away called Liberty Bar (if I remember correctly) which has $2 shots. Knock back a few and then wander amongst the jars of pickled punks. Great way to spend an afternoon. I've continued the tradition with my own kids. They find it fascinating. And it's always hilarious to see the expression on other people faces when they hear my 8yo call from across the room: "Hey dad! I found another weird penis!"

We took a trip there in January 2014 and stayed overnight "locked in" with some other people that paid (for a fundraiser).
I wish we could go there more often.  It is an amazing collection.

One of the skulls on the wall-o-skulls has Mrs Johnson's name on it because she donated to have it restored (part of an concerted effort to clean and restore all of them several years ago).
She likes the idea that even though she is still alive she is "part" of the Mütter Museum Collection.

Literally did just that last July 4th. Was an excellent way to spend a day off work.

This is my absolute favorite museum in Philly, by a country mile, and I FREAKING LOVE the Please Touch museum, so that's saying something. (BTW, if you have kids, go to Please Touch. Just do it) Mutter is just amazing.

Also, there's a "bundle" museum pass if you are a museum person/family that makes each individual visit quite reasonable.

The 3-pack gets you the Aquarium, Please Touch, and the Zoo. If you have kids, that's one of the best weekends ever. If you have older kids (7+), you can add Eastern State or swap it out for, say, the aquarium (the one down the road in Baltimore is the best on the East Coast, IMO).

Oh, I forgot to mention that the pass doesn't include Mutter, which is a bummer, but small kids dont really get much enjoyment out of it anyway. Teenage boys (and I'm sure quite a few girls)? Uh, yeah. A buddy and I took his 12 and 13yo sons there. They didnt appreciate stuff like the collection of bones showing Civil War injuries (actually the most impressive and useful part of the collection), but the giant colon, soap lady, and collection of things swallowed by kids? Hell yeah.
