(NPR)   It looks like GOP senators, who once voted in lockstep to support FISA-sanctioned government surveillance of citizens, are now poised to vote against it. Difficulty: Because it makes it too risky for Trump to collude with Putin   (npr.org) divider line

Oh, they're taking up three security measures THIS week?  It's farking Wednesday!

Consistency is not a pillar of the GOP platform nor is it an endearing quality of a conservative.

Also, they're dicks.

This is "Leopards Eating Faces" regret.

The GOP thought FISA powers would be used to identify terrorists and criminals. And it is. They just didn't think it would be used to uncover their crimes.

The problem is that the FISA court can investigate THEM. They don't give a pimple on a newborn rat's ass about what happens to Donald Trump.

Good.  There's inherent problems with any program that rejected applications .003% of the time.

They thought that they were immune from secret judgments and secret evidence gathering from Secret Court. They learned that, in fact, they were not immune to any of those things.....

I just said this in a different thread, but seems like a perfect recycle to me; nothing has changed.

Just goes to show that republicans have no principles what so ever. They will always do what benefits them, is profitable or politically expedient (or some combination of the three).

I'm just baffled that so many people can't see that.

Any changes made in the senate, to the house bill, goes back to the house for another vote to accept the changes. Right?

This isn't a total given McConnell will get 100% of the changes he wants. Right?

Can't have Democrats investigating Vanilla ISIS.

He is going to trade the changes he wants for further Corona funding and economic stimulus funding. He signaled he wanted something, and Trump wants it too, when he put the breaks on further funding bills in the Senate until further notice.

Fark thread for it was over here.

\I had wondered what he had wanted from Pelosi

People can see it. They just think all politicians being corrupt shiatbags is the natural order of things, so why change it. They also don't really care as long as their team is winning.

If you have nothing to hide, why worry? Seems to me, yearning to gut FISA ought to be considered "probable cause".

Everyone! Everyone!
Take a day off from sewing masks to sew up some black bags. Make at least one that'll fit over a turtle's extended neck and shell.

Oh me? I came of age in the W Bush era, I learned about right and wrong from W.

Against FISA, is obviously with the terrorists! There's no third choice.
The Trump-Republicans are terrorists!
Unleash Dick Cheney!

Liberate Gina Haspel!
Liberate Erik Prince!
Trump must have them on scopolamine.

You are either with us or against us!

The Crisco Taliban takes threats to national security very seriously. They consider long and hard how to make the most profit from the suffering of us commoners while allowing known threats to damage the country or actively destroying things themselves if it isn't going quickly enough for the paymasters' liking.

That's gonna be a real bad stink on Moscow Mitch McConnel & Trump if they reject a stimulus package during 20% unemployment.  All for being weak on terrorism

//don't care what changes they want to FISA

This is all according to their standard playbook: make the problem worse and then blame the Democrats for it. Only slightly less popular with the GOP than break the government and claim it is fundamentaly flawed, so we should just throw the whole thing away.

They are starting to pull out their favorite dog to beat, raising the national debt by spending is bad. This is in preparation to start using the debt ceiling and the threat of shutting down the government that they love to use to cause dysfunction and blame on the Democrats for being to eager to tax and spend. It is prep for if Trump looses and for their upcoming elections in the fall.

It's an old trick, but it is to manipulate and get voting out of their base, not any moderates or Democrat voters.

They are also likely going to stretch out the talk and frequency of any stimulus bills to keep their base and the rest of the middle and lower class scared s***less about trying to pay their bills, let alone feed themselves. When the virus is done, the next step in this play is to say, "The Democrats didn't open the economy back up in the states they have governors in soon enough and that is why the economy isn't recovering." Never mind that we had a global recession looming for the last year and it is going to be a depression bigger than 2008's because of the pandemic and how Trump has fumbled the emergency, from delaying any reaction to trying to open up before we have mass testing or even a vaccine.

\also, why has a national emergency not been declared because of this? Seriously, WTF?

And lying about talking to them. And changing the GOP's platform to be pro-Russia as soon as he got the nomination. And kissing Russia's ass constantly during his Presidency, often to the detriment of America and American interests.
