This submission is Drew's clever attempt to get us all to sign up for Barefark.

Stop buying things impulsively?

I've found that living in a country where you can't get Amazon deliveries has been very helpful. Granted, this suggestion isn't going to be helpful for everyone.

And sometimes you do just need to buy the occasional impulse buy https://www.amazon.com/Dehydrated-Marshmallows-Assorted-40-Case/dp/B008DJR6HU

If your impulse spending is affecting the important parts of your budget, you have a problem. Figure out how much money you have coming in, how much you absolutely must spend, and then how much you can spend on whatever you want. If your needs are met, do whatever you please with the leftover money.

Now, if you excuse me, I have to go buy paint, duct tape, 3 rolls of 6 mil plastic sheet and some fake knives.

i managed to only spend $300 on 4 dvds and a baseball jersey as the only nonessential purchases in the past 2+ months

/yes, alcohol is considered an essential purchase

Wow, I've only spent $25 on Amazon since March 1st? I need to grab a few beers and get my numbers up tonight.

I've been treating the kids more; bought a few small Lego sets as schoolwork rewards, we get takeout for lunch or hit the DQ once a week, etc. On one hand it could be seen as wasteful, but OTOH we've been saving crazy money the last few months since we're not paying for childcare and our spring break trip was cancelled.

So I'm not going to hold it against someone if they bought some stupid cat tent; she probably would have spent more money at the coffee shop during this time anyway.

I search for the most economical item of interest on ebay before buying it.

Just don't. Stopping buying crap on impulse is a great way to see your bank account plump up. It's amazing how people can fritter away a huge sum in smallish amounts.

My husband and I were looking for a bench for the front entrance for a few months. We finally decided on one last week. I still waited four days to pull the trigger and order it. It came today and looks great, and was a less expensive option than some of the other things we'd been considering.

You don't "need" the bench. You want the bench. Learn the difference.

It's simple, like beekeeping.

Years of being poor and not having any discretionary money have turned me into a miser. I hoard every cent that I can. Also, I'd rather have money sitting in a bank account. It's much easier that way come moving time.

I'm detecting a possible synergy there.  But I don't think you can buy alcohol on Amazon.

I'm stuck home because of the lockdown - I can't get my vision corrected and i can't drive until I do. I'm saving a ton of money in gas.  Saving a lot on restaurants, but the grocery delivery charges are eating through that.

So if I get some minor joy from buying relatively inexpensive junk on line, so be it.

All I know is I want a cat tent now. Not going to though because $70 is too much in my opinion. If is was half that price I would have already ordered it.

Plus, you know, the cat will just use the box it came in and ignore the tent.

I've found being too poor to spend money on non-essential items to be a solid deterrent.

We've been spending on gaming (if we're gonna be stuck inside, right?) for games we can play remotely with friends and new card/board games to play with the kids, but it's a drop in the bucket compared to the trips we planned for Memorial Day, Labor Day, and my wife's b-day.

My impulse buys are usually pretty cheap but typically put to good use. I've been buying a bunch of guitar parts on ebay for a refinish project. Never done it before, should be fun and I'll learn some new tricks.

Related: anyone know where I can get a custom headstock decal made?

Depends on what type you want. For a basic headstock lettering Stickermule has gotten some good reviews from friends.

/ never tried it myself
// YMMV

Any sign shop should have the cutter to be able to do pre-weeded vinyl. Comes on a sheet and you just stick on and then peel back.

My impulse buys tend to be more cheap used photography stuff: lenses, adapters, filters, etc. I found a Zuiko 42mm F1.2 lens for only $75 (usually $300-400), an adapter to put it on my digital camera, and a set of bellows and film holder to digitize my older negatives (cheaper than having a shop do it). It's a bit less impulse, a bit more "holy crap it's cheap grab it!"

I started an OOTP Baseball league with some friends due to the lack of sports.  I've been tempted to buy a hat for my team with my custom logo.

Of course, the fact that it could be an unknown amount of time before I can show up at one of their houses wearing it is helping me not buy it.

Also the fact that we've had to replace 3 major appliances and a computer in the last 12 months.
