NYC officials proposed using streets, curbs and sidewalks.....

I was sure this was going to be about urinating.

They're doing that in Deep Ellum here in Dallas using former valet pull-up spots. The only caveat is that the tables/chairs have to be rolled up at night.

And where are people going to walk and park?

The streets would obviously be open to pedestrian movement. And nobody cares where you're going to park, you're the idiot that brought your car in to the city.

You can walk on the parkway, and park on the walkway.  Duh.

I don't know if you've heard about it but there is a pandemic happening and the sidewalks don't fill up like that now.

Oh, you mean like much of Europe has done for who knows how long?
But of course it won't work here, because too many Americans are assholes.

The president of Czech Republic proudly announced businesses should apply for the sidewalk permit (already a thing) and not wait for the permit to be granted, just start setting up so restaurants can get more business

My friends place in Prague 1 (old town) applied and we're almost immediately told it was rejected. Neighbors have already received fines for breaking the decades old rules for outdoor dining (distance from the street, etc)

My point - you can announce whatever positive message you want, but bureaucracy will find a way to rear it's ugly head

They'll have a better turnout with outside seating.
