Penned by Emmerich and 2012 co-writer Harald Kloser and Spenser Cohen, Moonfall sees its plot go into action when the moon is knocked from its orbit by a mysterious force and is on a collision course with Earth. Life as we know it hangs in the balance and with just weeks to go before impact, a ragtag team is sent on a seemingly impossible mission to land on the lunar surface and save humanity.

Emmerich is such a farking hack. It sounds like Armageddon meets Melancholia. And at least the latter had naked Kirsten Dunst.

I wonder if Gad will be the guy who creates the computer virus that stops that evil moon in its tracks.

Check the angular vectors of the moon.
What do you find? The moon out of orbit?
-- By more than twelve degrees.
lt must be a mistake.
Thats no mistake...
lt's an attack.

So they are making Flash Gordon 2?

I do like he's orchestrated the Goonies and now Back to the Future zoom reunions.

Both were really fun to watch, although his fan-boying goes a little overboard and at times gives me the douche chills.

Wow, almost exactly like every Emmerich film, I really farked up there. Almost, in that I failed to preview one post before general release, while non of his films are ever previewed before release.

Did it really? The movie got me so bored I didn't even pay attention.

These days I don't see the downside of the moon crashing into the planet.

I guess Emmerich saw Avenue 5 and thought why not?

I don't remember the last time I was that disappointed in a TV show.  It's not that it was horrible, it's that it wasn't good.

That's the appeal.  His movies are so absurd, ridiculous, outlandish, and dumb that suspension of disbelief isn't an issue.  They're an invitation to grab some popcorn and turn your brain off for 2 hours.  When you want a big budget special effects laden B movie, Emmerich is the man.  If he tried to make something good, it would be unwatchable.  When you pair him up with an even bigger hack like Dean Devlin?  Magic.  Pure farking magic.

Ye gods that movie was awful! But I watched the whole thing just because I could spend 6 hours watching Michelle Monaghan wash dishes, filing her nails, doing her taxes, etc and not consider it wasted time because it's Michelle friggin' Monaghan........... aaaaaand now I'm realizing just how creepy that sounds

I'd rather see Josh Gad, charred corpse identified by dental records.

What did producers of movies like this ever do before the invention of the word "ragtag"?  Not the concept, just the word.  How many times has "ragtag" been used in elevator pitches, one-sheets for entertainment reporters, or schmooze sessions to raise funding?  Are the makers of these movies themselves "ragtag"?  How about the writers?  "Ragtag writers" sounds like a really wimpy motorcycle gang.  Personally, I would go see it, but only if I was promised I would be part of a ragtag group of moviegoers served popcorn and cokes by a ragtag group of desultory teenagers in a ragtag theater.  And the projector operator better be ragtag too, by God!

Flincher: These days I don't see the downside of the moon crashing into the planet.

Other than having to read nothing but "super moon" stories until we die
