Humans are social creatures. For better or worse, it's eventually going to happen. Even if half the population dies from this, the remaining half will want to get together to at least commiserate.

Seeing as how I never was comfortable with it to begin with, that would be a "hell no" for me.

Except for those of us (like Tim who posted above) who'd rather not, thanks. Please feel free to go ahead and be social without me.

I'm a hard introvert but I did like getting lost in a crowd of people from time to time. Live entertainment isn't the same without an audience breathing and spitting all over the place. We are microbial distribution devices, we'll figure out a way to get back to that.

Hear Hear good sir. While there will always be the odd concert that is worth going to, I have always enjoyed the quiet of being by myself or with a few other people. Havnt even set foot in a movie theater in ages because nothing is worth seeing there anymore

People will forget or not care about covid in a worringly short time, as we see from the reopenings going on. Give it a few months and you'll be sucking face with some random lover with no thoughts to the future.

Child support is only 18 years. Oh, you mean the COVID. I guess you are right.

People will forget and want to gather together because we are social apes.

What IS going to happen is that folks are going to shun and shame someone with a cough or the sniffles for a long ass while though. And the casual bro-hug/faux-hug are going to go out of style. And a lot of folks are going to let handshakes fall out of style, which will make confirmed and aggressive handshakes all the more enclined at forcing the issue. Which is going to make the aloof and standoffish another form of power move.

And then there will be this...

Once we have a vaccine (or vaccines if more than 1 are needed)?  Sure.  Of course.

It's not so much we'll forget, but the reasons we can't will eventually go away.  Not magically or overnght, but it will happen.  People went back to church, and to restaurants, etc. after the Spanish Flu.

Patience is the key.

Yeah once we have a vaccine people will go right back to how things were pretty quick. As another farker said people will be more suspicious of coughs and sneezes for a while but that's probably it.

We had been seeing a lot of live theater, locally and some top-tier venues. There have been some good videos online of recorded performances, and we've watched a bunch of those. I've found I prefer the ones that preserve the feel of a theater viewing - mostly with a few fixed cameras that don't get a lot of cuts or jumps in zoom level.

I may be mistaken, but I feel like being part of a live audience isn't any of the appeal for me. If I notice the audience around me at all, chances are someone is driving me farking crazy and I'm hardly enjoying the show. But being in the same space as a great performance has special appeal.

Stop writing these stupid farking "articles".

The world is not going to "change forever" because of this. We're going to go see sporting events, go to concerts, fly in planes, do stupid shiat with people on the 4th of July. It's going to be the same as it was, it's just going to take some time. Every three days, we get some stupid article about how the world is going to "change".

Yep. It's as if these articles are written by functional adults that are somehow still completely clueless about human nature. Most people are gonna slowly realize that having yet another virus floating around in the microbial soup that we all swim in daily doesn't really add that much risk to the risk pool we take for granted and don't even think much about.

You're still much more likely to die in a car accident, choke to death, have a heart attack, drown, or get shot than you are likely to die from C19.

2020-05-13 2:02:02 PM
Of course we will (most of us anyway). One important side effect of the lockdowns ia that they're demonstrating both just how powerfully (most) humans crave to be in the same space, and that videoconferencing can take the edge off of isolation but is no substitute for real contact.

Same. The cinema is going to reopen july first, with a max of 30 people per screening. I'm going to try and get in on a screening on that day.

Completely false on all accounts.  Covid 19 is now easily the #1 cause of deaths worldwide.

Of course we will. There have been pandemics before. None of those stopped people from gathering in crowds forever. I see these predictions that the coronavirus will usher in some sort of great, seismic changes in human society and I don't believe it. We'll settle back into familiar comforts when this settles down.

If we're lucky then we may get some much-needed reforms in regards to public health and welfare out of this.

Please don't confuse "introverted" with "meek". They are not the same. Not even close.

Quiet, shy, easily imposed on.  That's a perfect description of most introverts when looked at from the outside.  It doesn't matter what is going on inside because meek is a description you place on somebody else based on observation of their behavior.

Geotpf: Covid 19 is now easily the #1 cause of deaths worldwide.

I'll give the benefit of the doubt and assume that you're just completely clueless instead of outright lying and fear mongering, but C19 would barely crack the top 20 worldwide in 2020 based on WHO estimates. According to Johns Hopkins, there have been about 300,000 C19 deaths worldwide, so that would put it at around #18.

So take a moment to educate yourself before inadvertently spreading false information and hysteria.
