Narcissists believe they deserve only the best and more prestigious followers and friends.  Trump desperately wants to be in the "in" crowd because he thinks that's his rightful place.

Trouble is, if Trump had the standing his talents and efforts deserved, he'd be running the second-best used car dealership in Cowsberg, and people with actual talent and skill know this.

I would have said he'd be somewhere around assistant yard manager at the third-best caryard. And that's only because the owner owed Donnie's* father a favor.

It's an old conservative goal--linking wealthy economic conservatives with poor social conservatives.

Rusher, the publisher of National Review, diffidently revives a Kevin Phillips-style coalition of old and new conservatives in an ""Independence Party"" that, he believes, could win shards of the Republicans, former Wallace followers, populists, blue-collar ""ethnics,"" and others who hate public assistance, the liberal press, the Russians and university ""verbalists."" The 1976 candidate will require a ""temperament so balanced and serene that it can almost command its environment"" and a ""reassuring"" tone with no trace of radical shrillness. The platform: restoration of the death penalty, a school voucher system of education, the ""mutual interest"" of worker and management, reduced government spending, and a pledge to ""honor and reward hard work."" Reagan might be the best man, a bit old but well-known, a good compromiser. Wallace is too disabled and too raucous...

https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/a/william-a-rusher-2/the-making-of-the-new-majority-party/

Rusher tried to start a new party that would be more conservative than the 70s GOP; he wanted Reagan, but he ended up settling for Lester Maddox (https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2013/12/third-party-ronald-reagan-1976-101335).  But the whole plan was to use wedge issues to get poor people to vote for an economically conservative agenda, because there weren't enough wealthy voters to support that agenda.

/tl;dr:  this crap didn't start with Trump.

I'm no fan of Howard Stern but he's not wrong here.

Trump's such an elitist he even thinks owning a pet is beneath him. He hates dogs.

I don't know what his followers see in him but I wouldn't trust any man who don't like dogs.

Yes she would have been happy to. Problem with being a right-winger is you literally can not conceive of not being a complete coont. You assume the good people are just coonts like you but lying. I mean why would someone not be a selfish vindictive coont right? Whats in it for them? You cant imagine it.

Lots of us have no trouble imagining it.

That's the thing. Even if he wasn't an admitted and unrepentant serial sexual predator who also happens to sympathize with nazis and make fun of POWs, not liking pets (ESPECIALLY dogs) is a dealbreaker. Even if he didn't lust after his owner daughter and hate the free market, viewing dogs as an insult makes him unfit for office. Even if he wasn't owned by Putin, never having a pet means he's a shiatbag psychopath.

Trump makes me think about Caddyshack and how Trump is an amalgam of the boorish Rodney Dangerfield with his new money and the snobby Judge with his old money. Trump campaigned as if he was the populist Dangerfield, wanting to open up the country club to the people, tipping the help generously. In Reality, Trump is the small minded Judge who looks down his nose at anyone not brought up as spoiled and entitled as he is. He is the end result of old money without any links to noblesse oblige or a concern for society at large.

I don't listen to him because 'shock jocks' are obnoxious, but in this case? He's 100% correct.

I know it's baffling to the 'all-or-nothing' Republican brain, but you can agree with something someone says without necessarily liking them.

It has nothing to do with being an elitist. It has everything to do with the fact that he has no capacity for feeling empathy towards living creatures other than himself. He doesn't understand the appeal because for him there is no appeal

Dogs are overrated.

You'd actually think Trump would LOVE dogs with their constant need to give attention and excessive loyalty.

Btw, Howard Stern is one of the few people who was a bigger media presence than Trump ever was, and Stern is an actual "man of the people", unlike boss baby Trump. I was never a day to day fan of his because I found a lot of his material to be low brow and sophomoric, but even I could appreciate his cynical honestly that he was giving the people what they want, without appearing condescending or patronizing.  The secret to being popular is remembering that half the population is of below average intelligence, statistically speaking. Now that I think about it, Howard Stern could probably beat Trump in an election, as Stern's fan base includes people from both sides of the political spectrum. I'm not saying that would be a good thing for the country, but he probably could, and the election campaign would be something to watch. imagine the spectacle as President Stern strides to the podium to give his inaugural address to the rhythm of a thousand sharply dressed Navy band drummers butt bongo-ing a thousand butts.
