Resign? Ha! Trump is at the point where he goes full dictator and starts jailing political enemies. He's lost his mind, and unless he strokes out, there is ZERO chance he leaves office quietly.

I'm surprised McConnell hasn't called for his resignation.  Trump is taking the GOP down with him.  Kicking him out and doing a hard reset on themselves during this whole pandemic will allow them to keep some Senate seats they would otherwise lose.

That would force them to admit they were in the wrong, and that's something they'll never even consider. If Trump loses, and the Senate flips then the GOP is going to go straight into attack mode. Everything Trump broke is going to be blamed on the Biden and the Dems, and everything wrong with the country is because they were elected to the majority. They'll play that fiddle until they can steal one of the chambers, or the WH back from those illegally elected Democrats.

Let's see he has shown no leadership, actively thinks laws don't apply to him, abuses his office, hires friends and relatives with no experience, takes no responsibility for his actions or lack thereof, aides and abets foreign governments (Russia), and is mentally unstable, I can't think of any reason he should resign.

I thought McConnell was more than happy to admit that the small government and unregulated market approach was failing toward the end of W.'s presidency in an effort to help retain Senate seats?  As I recall he forced Bush to announce the TARP program.

If media outlets started calling for his resignation, I would wholeheartedly support it.

Yeah it's not like you pay a cop to keep the peace, or a fire department to put out fires. No one would expect the Department of Transportation to maintain roads or bridges. All those tax dollars for the military aren't used to prepared and defends ourselves from war. Why would you expect the surgeon general to have an opinion on medical issues?

This whole society thing? It's just, like, a word man, it doesn't MEAN anything.  Our government is here ONLY as a scapegoat for all of our problems, nothing more, nothing less.

We've had this thread a bunch of times.  Usually a poster who isn't as lazy as me will show a side by side chart of the media outlets who called for Clinton to resign over a blowjob versus if they called for trump to resign over the day's outrage.  It probably gets funnier as the death toll climbs, then gets less funny, but then gets funny again at a real big number.

There are lots of reasons for Trump to resign outside of his bumbling ineptitude during this most recent crisis.  Hell, just the fact he's in so far over his head in a job with existential control over the lives of every person on earth would be reason enough for him to step aside.

2020-05-12 2:30:25 PM
He won't resign.  He can'tresign.  The moment he does, he gets prosecuted for every crime done during his "presidency."  That motherfarker will do his best to stay in office until he dies.

2020-05-12 2:31:39 PM
Probably because they know there's no way that's ever going to happen. It's the best thing he could do for this country. Therefore, not happening.

Also, these are people who still mostly refuse to call his lies "lies." So they're not gonna use the R word, either.

The degree to which we have become inured to failure, he says, was vividly demonstrated during George W. Bush's presidency. Even though Bush presided over a series of historic disasters-9/11, the Iraq War, Hurricane Katrina, and the global financial meltdown-he served two full terms in office.

Something to keep in mind when you hear that Biden's doing better in the polls than Trump.

That would require admitting a mistake or failure.  The GOP and Republican voter base are like sharks.  If they smell blood they go for a kill.  A "kill"politically is someone to blame every bad thing that is happened on.  The party as a whole has no concept of conscience or honor, it's all House of Cards.

desertratt: Why does anyone think it is governments job to save you from a virus

The government's job is to save you from a lot of things, including viruses.

That is one of its primary functions: Secure the safety and welfare of the public trust. Having the resources and logistics to identify threats before they occur and protect the people from those threats is something even libertarians agree that all governments should do.

2020-05-12 3:27:57 PM
The problem isn't that media outlets aren't asking him to resign for doing a bad job.

The problem is he thinks he is doing a great job, so why would he resign? What would be the point of asking him to resign? We already know what his answer will be.

Two things everyone knows but won't say out loud:
1. Trump would be admitting failure to something by resigning, which he is completely incapable of doing.
2.  Trump knows his only shield against prosecution for his various crimes is that he is the sitting President.

He will never resign, and and I suspect he will do everything he can to stay in office until he is dead.
