Sorry, no one is standing up to Dumpy. This country needs a person with nothing to lose to just go off on him and attack his fragile ego. His bully antics work because no one will square up and punch him in the nose. He's afraid of direct confrontation, hence why he can't fire someone to their face.

As much as I like Fauci, he is going to be given talking points, and guess what-he's going to repeat talking points.  Folks, stop expecting a Fauci or a Mueller to do what needs to be done. Check your registration status and get out to vote and encourage those that are tired of this crap to do the same.

It's all about the questions with Fauci; he won't lie for Trump.

Is there a thread for the SCOTUS arguments?  For those of us that are interested in keeping up with both?

2020-05-12 9:40:58 AM
So how's this going to work?  3 of the 4 people that are testifying are self-quarantined, and last I heard the chairman of the committee was self-quarantined as well.

I'm not so sure. Fauci has been head of the NIAID since the 80s, he's in his late 70s now. It might be time to speak freely.

They'll probably vote 5-4 to set Trump's tax returns on fire in the middle of Pennsylvania Avenue.

1) Testing MUST happen.
2) Testing so far has been impressive.
3) It's still not nearly enough.
4) It's enough to begin phase I of reopening.

Senator Alexander (R-TN), everyone.

I think that's it. He's been around too long and is too respected to worry about pissing Trump off.

Oh man. This or SC?

I desperately need a distraction from Plague Death Anxiety, then *boom* too many choices.

Is there a schedule for either anywhere?

Good luck, Fark Livers... whatever little left there is of you all, it's an Irish Coffee kinda day... that's likely to become "oh, forget the coffee" reeeeeeal quick.

SC feed is even more brutal... no video just sounds like eavesdropping on a phone call

It's still misleading. If testing isn't consistent/available at the same volume throughout the world, then it's just a number.

And I figure it might be a never-again kinda thing at any point ... they really don't want to become as overseen as "snoop on a phone call" allows.

But I have enough lawyers in my life (some of whom might know some justices).  On the other hand, I have enough of an inside view on healthcare and the "response" to not hear morans argue about it.

Maybe it's a "take a walk" kinda day.

Hrrrm.

I'm listening to Lamar Alexander trying to absolve Trump. In his remarks he lists all the things this country did to prepare. He did NOT mention Trump discarding crucial elements, sequestering others, and passing around aid as political payoffs.

2020-05-12 10:16:44 AM
So Lamar, you think that the Pandemic Response Team should not have been disbanded?

2020-05-12 10:17:00 AM

Liese: "Quarantine the sick and exposed instead of the whole country"

This misstates reality in such a gross way.  Hospitals and assisted living centers have employees who have families, take public transportation, and interact with other people on a daily basis.  Moreover, vulnerable people who are holed up in their homes still need necessities and will need to interact with repairmen and delivery people.

Until we develop a thorough and accurate testing regime with contact tracing, along with a way to financially support the quarantined so they don't lose their jobs or health insurance, reopening the country is an insane proposition.
