Good read, everything in layman's terms.  I liked this bit:

"Importantly, our results suggest that loss of taste or smell is a key early warning sign of COVID-19 infection. A loss of appetite and severe fatigue also outperformed the classical symptoms like cough and fever. "

What exactly is the use of testing if going to the hospital is mostly ineffectual, getting on a ventilator has an 80% fatality rate and we're supposed to treat ourselves and everyone we see as if we and they are contaminated anyway?

The only use of any testing I can see is that everyone around the President is tested daily so that he looks like it isn't a problem. And even that isn't working so well.

Subby the US has tested more people as a whole than any other country. But by all means, keep farking that goat.

8 countries have tested more people per 1,000,000 citizens than the US

It's not total tests that matter, it's percentage of the population and on that, the US continues to fall on its face

As long as you are consistent and insist the UK, France, Canada, Sweden, the Netherlands, and South Korea all suck too

I'd take an 80% chance of death over a 100% chance of death.

FTFA: Loss of taste and smell were particularly striking, with two thirds of users testing positive for coronavirus infection reporting them compared with just over a fifth of the participants who tested negative.

What? I didn't think loss of test and smell was that common. That seems really strange to me.

Yeah, and most of those tests are just testing the same people around Trump over and over again.  See, I can use Republican Math too.

That wasn't really my point but if you're doing the ventilator marketing, I'd tweak the tag line a bit.

As documented here by znuh, among the symptoms of a non-fatal covid infection are "being so weak and fevered you cannot take care of yourself."

If we go back to the last historic analogue to the current situation - the 1918 flu pandemic - there was one thing that stood out above all else when it came to patients surviving: the quality of nursing care.

That's part of why the fatality rate jumps considerably when hospitals run out of beds, even if they aren't yet out of ventilators.

I guess you're being homeschooled because of the pandemic so go ask your parents about something called "percentages". It's fun math and quite useful.

There are like 1500 drive through testing sites nationwide.  It's not that hard if you really want to know.

If you're referring to the fact that by the raw numbers the US has done more tests, then yes that is embarassing for him/her. Or maybe it's him referring to a 37 year old electronic engineer about who's about to retire from the Army with some childish insult about being a high school student. Maybe it's the reading comprehension skills that are lacking.

Raw numbers mean nothing. "Most tests" is a ridiculous statement. Yoy don't win a football game by having the most punts. You don't win a war by firing the most bullets. You either know that and are willfully ignorant or you are simply not the sharpest tool in the shed. Now stop stalling and go learn your percentages. I know math is hard but you can do it. You are an army man after all...even almost retired.
