By the time this movie comes out, they'll all be the Old Mutants.

That was a bad call, Ripley, bad call.

I know that the whole X-Men mutant shiat is separate from the MCU but most people will see "Disney" and "Marvel comics" and think they're all the same and if this New Mutants thing sucks as badly as I've heard, releasing this theatrically could fark up all the momentum that Endgame got Disney.

/then again, Spider-Man:Far From Home was really lame so who knows

It could also be the studios area touch concerned the theater chains will embargo one of them to serve as a lesson to the others.

IMO FFH was good, except all the super-hero stuff. I'd like to see that cast in a regular movie, they've got great chemistry together.

Does it suck? Has anybody seen it?

I was hoping-against-hope that it would be at least decent. It would be nice to see the X-Men/New Mutants movies go full-on "Claremont-style" weird. By most accounts, the "New Mutants" movie is practically a horror flick, which is thematically spot-on.

I dunno, it seemed like a whacky teen romp if they edited it for network TV and threw in a lot of CGI. Did like tha Jake Gyllenhaal played the villain. It was a sort of "look what will happen to your career when you're too old to be the college aged hero" thing.

This, for exactly those reasons. That film has no place and would cause major headaches. They should either drop it on VOD or shelve it, no fanfare.

I haven't thought of Moviepass in a while. With COVID, if they had lived they'd be dead by now.

If anything, they'd be in a better financial position than ever. They'd have at least a few people who'd forget to cancel their monthly subscription but they wouldn't be hemorrhaging money from having to actually buy movie tickets. Their model was basically the gym membership model - sign people up and then hope they don't go.

I think streaming might be the best venue for this thing.  If you look at the cast list, all of the actors are coming off of TV roles with a writer/director that has four romantic dramas on his resume (none a big hit).  All of this may be great for the small screen, but lose something trying to translate to multiplexes.  I might just be knee-jerking after the last X-Men, though.  That one really kind of stunk.

Still far more money in the big screen than on digital, if they can get a release spot without conflicts. Good, bud, or ugly, it is the read headed stepchild that came with Disney's big IP purchase and they just want to get some value out of it before taking it behind the shed. They will try to find a slot to release it in, but they will need to abandon some stuff and this will be near the top of the list.

This was an idea whose basic premise was borderline at best even before trailers and interviews made it clear that they weren't actually going to roll hard with the 'fark it, it's a horror film now' idea and were doing more of a CW-style "the Vampire Diaries, but Mutants" thing.

The fact that this is the hill that multiple studios have selected to die on is, frankly, the only thing that's likely to ever be interesting about the production.

// Though in all fairness... Doom Patrol happened when an attempt to be edgy and grimdark in a mascara-smeared emo tween way got so far out of hand that it circled back around, broke the sanity of the writing staff so that they belatedly rewrote it as a surrealist comedy, and made it really good.  So the absurdly long production style and the billions of full rewrites it implies might actually bode well in combination with how stupid the starting premise was.

With or without buttholes?

So I guess the movie is still stuck in Limbo?

I suggest with buttholes. Big veined buttholes that strike fear into all who watch.

What did we say about that joke?  We had a conversation about this joke...

It cannonballed into our group and was funny for the first year, started to fade away like a mirage in the 2nd year and now?!?  It's a longshot but you might get your mojo back and the magik might happen again if you can cypher something out.  But like sunspots that dance across the surface this advice will vanish like a sprite.
