Only 30 seconds but they'll repeat it 30 times in an hour.

Let's all take a moment and experience what must be the shear terror of this and what bearing it may have on our lives.  To be honest, I will be welded to the TV until the building collapses or until I regain my footing.

The developers build what code allows. If your town is lacking affordable housing, look to the folks who block density changes.  Chances are they have a vested interest in keeping the status quo.

Damn.  You can keep your ass glued to the couch for 15 years?  Not bad!  This thing is just going to slowlyrot down, although oncea hole like this opens up, that rot goes a lot faster.

From the looks of that picture, that isn't one of the primary load bearing walls.  The immediate section of roof might come down when it finally separates far enough, but most of the roof is supported by the side walls.

Second, who ever built that needs kicked in the nads.  The corners of those walls were obviously not bolted together to prevent exactly this kind of separation.  Costs about $5 in materials per corner.

*Not all, to be fair. Just a bit of it. A much larger chunk of that time was spent becoming a fully qualified and highly experienced Cobra Mk.III pilot.

Back in the days before dirt was invented I lived in an old 1920s-era apartment building. A 3 story shoe-box shaped  building. This was almost 50 years ago now. What made the apartment extra special was the bathroom. The outside wall at the floor was around 5-6" away from the floor. You could literally look down into the bathroom below us. I was never actually in a position to see any of the tenants who lived there. It wouldn't have been anything more titillating than a toenail or a shadow, but it was unnerving. I moved as soon as I could.
I suppose, now that I'm writing about it, if they had a ladder they could have looked up to see our radiator.

That's not the beauty part.

The beauty part is that 10 or so years ago, they were sold as condos. IIRC, luxury condos.

I'm surprised there are still commercial buildings left by the marina. They tore down all the fisherman's net lofts quite awhile ago to develop (gentrify) the waterfront. Fishing the fall dog salmon run, on a beautiful old wood seiner from Everett, was a really fun time.

If it's not on some sort of historic registry, knock the sumbiatch down.

No, I'm well aware of the NIMBY assholes. If I was dictator, there would be little to no single family detached housing in the entire city.

Seattle has long has an issue with this o much SFR zoning.  They've up zoned a large area but there's always lag between up zoning and construction.

Plus growing population + geographic construction....
