I think Biden has actually been pretty good at social media so far. It's early days. Trump makes a rampaging frothing rabid asshole out of himself daily on social media, giving the Biden campaign lots of ammo for when things start to roil.

Letting Trump hoist himself on his own dotard is a good strategy for now.

Biden (or someone working for him) hasn't tweeted "tell us how you feel about your student loans in 3 emojis" or "why don't you pokemon go to the polls" yet so there's that

Trump supporters are a lost cause across the board. You need professional deprogrammers to peel any of them out of that death cult at this point.

The real question is how many sane people can they demoralize or disenfranchise and keep home so that the minority of cultists are able to win by attrition again.

Articles crying about likeability are a key factor in that demoralization. Trump can't run on competency or accomplishments because he's one of the stupidest, laziest people to ever live and he's never actually done anything productive in his entire life, so he needs the media to help sell the 'likeability gap' narrative again. Especially since he hurt himself on that front when he went on national TV and told everyone to drink bleach.

Trump's numbers are already set in stone. The question is how many Biden voters can they keep away from the polls.

It's not like old people vote.

Well, they can't vote if they're dead st least. That's the real GOP rona plan now that they're committed.

2020-05-11 10:42:52 AM
Honestly, I'm quite worried about November. The Democrats are running as politicians, Trump continues to run as a reality TV star, and people LIKE voting for reality TV. This basically all boils down to how badly Trump farks up, and whether or not the level of disaster can penetrate the reality TV bubble he projects.

I don't think Biden can win this election, I think it's up to Trump to lose it. And Trump's certainly putting in the work to lose! Buuuuuut... he's been doing that work since before he was elected. He one once as a complete incompetent who was clearly trying to lose.

Joe doesn't need to be social media savvy to beat Trump.

The Dems in general would be better off if they were more social.media savvy, because beating Trump isn't the only goal - there's a House to keep, a Senate to take, and a turtle to turn into soup.

I agree. You can't change the mind of a Trump cultist.

I'm just saying that the app is very clever and will keep them engaged and keep them from hearing anything else.

Part of social media is authenticity. People love being talked to like they're real people, not data points.

Republicans historically are very good at this.Largely because they tend to go with their gut over data, and have things about which they feel strongly (or pretend to feel strongly) about and which they articulate for in an uncompromising manner.

Dems...are as a whole not so great. Partially, it's because they tend to take the technocratic everything-is-negotiable stance on issues rather than aligning with their most active and engaged base members. Partially I think there's an X factor a lot of Dems don't have, or wont pursue because...reasons. There are Dems who are very good at it though (AOC, for example) And they see the results in popularity.

A lot of people are going to respond "But that shouldn't matter because Trump!" and personally, I agree with you. But outside the extremely online, extremely engaged bubble, it does matter.

Does Biden win by getting people who voted for trump to vote for him? Not likely.
Does Biden win by getting people who voted third-party to vote for him? Not likely.
Maybe, just maybe, Biden should concentrate on the biggest piece of the pie? The 'Didn't Vote' section. The more than 1 out of 4 voters section. Maybe 'not trump' will be enough to get them to vote for him. Maybe. It could happen. Kinda doubt it, though. Maybe offering them some sort of a 'new deal' might work. You know, guaranteed health care, economic safety nets. Naw, that's just crazy talk. I'm sure running on 'not trump' will work this time. For sures!

You are very much correct.

And AOC is indeed a great example of doing it right. People.often complain that Rumps vote reliably but unlike pulling teeth to get Dems to vote - but AOC isn't going to need to pull teeth to GOTV for her reelection.

Nothing either candidate does at this point will change November, except dying (which is a real possibility.)  Trump's greatest advantage has been his whole, "Vote for me, what can go wrong.  Being president is like voting for a prom king, and who wants to elect a harpy as prom king?" Well, 81,000+ dead later, that's not going to work.  Who is president matters again.  And everyone has been reminding of that fact forcefully.

That would be a lot more convincing if it weren't for the fact that your "inspiring" candidate Bernie Sanders couldn't get people to actually come out and vote for him, while the "boring" candidate Biden has been cleaning up.

But sure, you go ahead and sit at home and let Trump win a second term.  I'm sure your life and the lives of the poor will improve so much more that way.
