All I see are a bunch of pussies willing to roll over and present their necks for their Democrat masters' boots.

That crowd should be turning on them and dragging their bloodied bodies through the streets as a warning to other non-believers!

What bothers me is that these "reopen" protestors just want their wait staff, and kitchen staff to risk their own lives just so they can belly on up to that nine servings of deep fried butter.

I think it's even shallower than that. They know the pandemic is making their side look bad therefore they need to say it isn't bad. Pure tribalism. It's like we're on a sinking boat and we're all trying to bail it out and these people think that makes the captain look bad. So they're punching more holes in the boat to prove that holes sinking boats is fake news.

Herd immunity for this bug is going to need over 80% of the population immune to prevent the continued spread. 80% of 320MM is 256 million Americans need to 'experience' COVID19. Even with a 1% mortality rate that means 2.5 million dead Americans.

This shiat is why just before we got locked down I spent a sizable amount of savings on my own free weights. I won't likely be returning to the gym until next year at best. If I was able to I'd cancel my contract but I don't want to drop another couple grand right now just to get me and my wife out of coughing up $75 monthly.

To be fair, the actual fatality rate across the population is probably less than 1%.

so probably like only 1 million people will die. And a lot of them will still be old, so, that's not so bad right?

I'm feeling lazy (no need to be at the gym in 26 minutes, when it's closed), so just imagine my reply is a whole bunch of the GIF's of people pointing upwards with the caption "THIS!"

I like my gym.  I feel like they do a good job of cleaning, and they've already posted about how they're spreading things out so that it'll be safer when they can re-open.  But I have no such faith or trust in all the OTHER mouth-breathers that show up.  If I'm going back anytime soon, it would only be at 3AM when I can be the only one there, and can douse everything within a 6 foot radius with the provided Virex...

Yep. I'm a huge gym rat and really miss my morning weight lifting routine. But there is no way I am going back right now. No gym is going to spend the money needed to try to keep people safe. And even if they try, the nature of working out will make it practically impossible.

Really?  Most of the people who go to the Golden Corral closest to me aren't in Trump's demographic.  And by observation, a significant percentage of people going to stores in Georgia without masks are also not in his demographic.

Or if they are now Trump supporters, Biden is toast.

I suppose they could mandate new gloves along with new plates, but other than that I don't see how a buffet would work.

Oh, and another thing.  Go actually READ the instructions for Virex (or your gym's cleaner of choice).  Spritzing a paper towel and wiping stuff off is next-to-useless.  To actually disinfect something, the surface has to stay wet for 10 minutes.  When half the people don't even bother to wipe stuff down, and everyone else is doing so very poorly, what do you think is going to happen?

Contact time is crucial. You gotta spring for the good stuff with a 1-min contact time, but it's expensive and probably fairly limited to medical-use sales only right now.

No, it is definitely higher than 1% unless you want a value of young people that have no comorbidities or conditions which elevate risk.

Look at Germany - who is testing anyone that can't outrun a medical technician with a nasal swab - they have 7500 deaths for 172k diagnoses. That's over 4% and they are seriously prepared to combat this bug.

Indeed.  I just used Virex, because I know that's what my gym uses in the spray bottles that are scattered around.  I don't know if they have something else for staff use, but it doesn't really matter.  If it's what the patrons are using, and the vast majority are using it incorrectly/inefficiently, then that sets the bar.

Yes, when I managed a restaurant, I was the guy who actually knew how to use the sanitizer test strips, and would actually routinely test the dish machine to make sure it was properly sanitizing.  I ate there too, and I'll be damned if I wanted food poisoning; or to have anybody else get sick because of something I had the ability to prevent.
