Pair it with h Trump winnning the EC for the big bucks.

Except, both of those at the same time are possible.....

What a marvelous design

It might work.

If the virus kills enough attractive and sucurban voters in the cities in swing states, their deaths might make up for the losses - both in terms of the dead and the survivors in the 65+ demographic who switch from default-R to AnyFunctioningAdult2020.

I go by what they do, not what they say. What they're doing is arguing for opening up the country, putting attraessential workers at risk, in order to raise the stonk market. Derp Leader's not smart enough to understand the math. But his underlings are. What they're doing suggests that they've done the math and modeled it out, and have come to the conclusion that if permitted to run unchecked, it'll kill more of their political opponents than their supporters. They have six months of killing in which to effectuate the strategy.

Worst case for them - it doesn't work, they throw another hundred thousand corpses under the bulldozer and aren't necessarily any worse off, electorally-speaking, than they would have been if they'd tried to save as many American lives as possible.

Best case for them - they get lucky, the second wave isn't as bad as the first, and are hailed as saviors of the economy and the motherland.

Electoral math for them is a one-way bet: the dead don't vote, so let it kill us all and spin it the survivors in the fall.

Trump is going to try to find a way to get some billions to give old people. He loves writing checks on the USA's credit now for some reason.

My big prediction/fear:

Somewhere around October Trump will suddenly announce that a vaccine has been developed! This announcement will shoot his approval through the roof and he will win the election in a landslide as the Savior of the American People.

But the vaccine, much like the chocolate ration in 1984, exists only in announcements. There is no vaccine and he lied to us all. Or there is one but it's only for important people -- the rest of America will have to wait.

By the time the media and the people discover that the vaccine is nowhere near finished and is still months away from human trials, Trump no longer cares. It was just propaganda to win the election.

The death toll passes 400,000 on election day.

Yeah so much BS and so many crimes have been committed by Trump and Bush and none of it was ever punished for real... the more they are allowed to do crimes, the worst crimes they commit...

They will not get out of the WH no matter what. They'll rig the election, pull a terrorist attack, start a war, start a civil war... The only way these motherfarkers get out of the WH is if they are arrested by the army and that wont happen.

I don't know. If they're like my mother, they're determined to pass their assets down to their kids.

Cool by me. Because doing without a mask was Mom's idea. I've been telling her that she's in the group at high risk. It's not my fault if I find myself trying to figure out how to sell her assets.

I hate to be this honest and shiatty, but my wife and I would be able to clear our debts, in full. We're set if that happens.

If someone tells Trump that he's behind Biden in double digits among older Americans, he'll be even more anxious to open the country back up. He'll he probably call of an early national election about if we should keep social security, with in person polling in large crowds.

In 1984, the chocolate ration actually existed, however its reductions were announced as raises.

But it did exist.

Did it?

I don't recall Winston eating any. As far as he knew the ration was for inner Party members only.

There was something else the Party frequently announced -- The Lottery, for the Proles -- but there was no indication that such a thing even existed, much less had any winners, despite constant announcements of such.

If no one in the media is going to tell this guy "SHOW US OR YOU'RE FULL OF shiat!" right to his face then Trump will keep getting away with lies. He announces, they report, never any actual skeptical inquiry.

I farking hate the American media.

The Inner Party is shown in Winston's visit to O'Brien's domicile to have access to a slightly better quality of everything, but if the chocolate ration were doled out only to the Inner Party, what purpose would their be to broadcasting that fact to the Outer Party as well?

Also, I seem to recall Parsons being quite personally pleased with the announced "increase".

It did. It was used as an example early in the book of people's ability to fool themselves out of loyalty to a despot. The announcement is made of an increase in the chocolate ration. Everyone knows the new ration is less than what went before, but they quietly convince themselves that it is an increase. The lower echelon simply accept what they are told without question while those higher up perform more convoluted mental trickery on themselves. Winston Smith's recognition of this is the first indication of his questioning of Big Brother and Ingsoc.

I do know a few of my elderly relatives in Ohio have fallen off the Trump train since he wants them to go die for him. They are not what you would call a healthy group of people. The last time I talked to them was a couple years ago when they attacked me for being critical of dear leaders tax cut, it got ugly and told them I'd see them at their funerals. Mom told me they are scared to death now about reopening stuff. Glad they are seeing the light only sucks it took them looking down the barrel of a gun and Trump calling them warriors to do it.

Actually, it was the fact that he held evidence of the existence of Jones, Aaronson and Rutherford despite them becoming unpersons that kicked off the whole quiet revolt against Big Brother. But a memory retention of basic facts (ie: not applying doublethink correctly, a thoughtcrime in and of itself) would also do it.

Winston belched again. The gin was wearing off, leaving a deflated feeling. The telescreen-perhaps to celebrate the victory,

perhaps to drown the memory of the lost chocolate-

Then, as though touching her waist had reminded her of something, she felt in the pocket of her overalls and produced a small slab of chocolate. She broke it in half and gave one of the pieces to Winston. Even before he had taken it he knew by the smell that it was very unusual chocolate. It was dark and shiny, and was wrapped in silver paper. Chocolate normally was dull-brown crumbly stuff that tasted, as nearly as one could describe it, like the smoke of a rubbish fire.

Winston is quite familiar with the quality of the chocolate he normally receives.

The was a chocolate ration; it just sucked.

I read it like a dozen times as a senior in high school. It's one of my favorite books and it's one of the few works that really turned me onto politics (and to a lesser extent epistemological philosophy). I should really give it another go, probably would like it more now that I can identify which parts of Stalinism and NAZism that Orwell ripped off.

I read Atlas Shrugged around the same time.

What I liked best about Orwell is that he could explain in one sentence what would take Rand 20 pages. It made me admire the punchiness of his writing and how adept he was at explaining complex subjects in simple, straight-forward language, and I always sought to model my own writing off his.

My feeling is that there's a lot of repressed anger, and embarrassment, just simmering under the surface for a substantial segment of the voters who threw in with that clownshow. They're staying quiet about it and waiting for the election.

I live in an affluent suburban area surrounded by corporate oil executives who didn't much care for Trump but voted for him anyway because he couldn't possibly be worse than Obama.  I remember having these conversations with my favorite neighbor in 2016.
Fast forward to last weekend... same neighbor said if Trump came to town he would (in jest) consider going "Lee Harvey Oswald" to take care of the national disgrace we've faced.
I thought this was very telling and a barometer for the times.

Even if Biden won by a thin margin it would skullf*ck Trump's head so much. His gargantuan ego just wouldn't be able to process the defeat.

Now imagine what a bona-fide landslide for Biden would do to the squealing orange toddler.
