Well, bye. Good luck getting legal pot somewhere else. He has rapidly destroyed any respect he may have earned with his insipid behavior. We won't miss him -- we have plenty of arseholes that can and will take his place. As far as I know Tesla and SpaceX have a board of directors that are both rather upset at his antics anyway.

/ Back to South Africa with him where white privilege isn't quite what it used to be.

Tesla BOD is full of some Musk cronies and a few that were forced on them from the SEC

No one is in the foreseeable future.
Musk is the only one loony enough to think he can very soon.

I've actually worked with guys like Musk.  Smart, hard workers, if you stick them in a back room and leave them alone they'll move mountains for you.  But you don't let them speak to clients, you don't put them in charge, you don't want them "visible".  They...get weird.  If they're in the room with a direct client or someone client facing, you want to get a project manager quick, because whatever comes next - it's above your paygrade.

Oooh, I've been waiting for this thread.

I remember when Musk and Tesla were going to save the planet.  He could do no wrong.  Dude had a cameo in frickin' Iron Man 2.  All the right people loved him, especially since Republicans allegedly hated that damn treehugger.

And that ALL ended when he got invited onto some of Trump's advisory councils and didn't have the courtesy to wear a suicide vest to the meetings.  No matter that he shortly resigned from those positions in an act of protest; his Woke Platinum Card was cut up and he became the Exile from Farkistan.

Despite his loopiness, he's still the guy that makes things happen.  And he's also well known for not suffering people who say he can't accomplish something, both inside and out of his companies.  Whether he follows through on a project or not is immaterial, because the important part is that he tries, and the successes outweigh the failures.  Hyperloop?  Don't care.  Electric cars?  Meh.  Neuralink?  Intriguing.  The freaking rockets landing?  That may be the game changer of the century, pending nuclear fusion power becoming an actual thing.

Plus, I don't think he just dropped this bombshell doc in a fit of weed-fueled pique, without "the board" being aware. Shiat just got real for Alameda County.

Not allowed to call him out?  Please.  Farkers sentenced him to Gulag and wanted his a$$ out of Bartertown.  I remember; it was like a light switch being flipped.  People were frothing that he actually agreed to participate in Trump's councils rather than join The Resistance.  That's still the guiding principle of Wokeness - anyone who isn't openly supporting it is the enemy.  Not someone to be ignored, but an enemy to be destroyed.

And what is this constant Obama-esque "You didn't build that" attitude toward everything that Musk has accomplished?  That's like saying von Braun and Sergei Korolev were just pitchmen.

But enough about that, DO EXPLAIN how he's fomenting violence against duly appointed functionaries.  You may want to put a spittle guard on your keyboard.

Dude isn't sitting still while his business is shut down on the arbitrary whims of minions who use a sledgehammer as the tool for every problem and seem to have developed a taste for using it.  Do you think he should get a Government bailout?  How about Alameda County residents - no, ALL California taxpayers - chip in to a "Save the Tesla Plant" mark up on their next tax bill?

Do you honestly believe that Gov Newsome has the authority to nationalize Tesla using the principles of the Nick Maduro School of Economics Guidebook?  For everyone saying "Good, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out" you may find that California is flirting with a severe case of Heinlein's Bad Luck.

Actually, let me take this a step further: do you think he would even agree to a bailout?  He's told the world he plans to sell his homes to spend more time at the factories and SpaceX has literally been building and testing rocket subsystems day and night.  Does that sound like someone who accepts just STOPPING EVERYTHING as long as he gets paid for the losses of turning out the lights and sending everyone home to sit around watching Netflix?

BTW, check out the Tweets and replies portion of his feed.  The relevant local mayors are tripping over themselves trying to defuse the situation.  To no avail, I'm sure, because the PRCa is probably AOC AOK with gambling with people's livelihoods as long as Dianne Feinstein and Nancy Pelosi ensure they get Federal relief.

Unless Tesla wants to dilute themselves more or borrow billions, it's not going to be easy or cheap to build a new factory elsewhere in the US. From what I know they got a great deal to move into the NUMMI plant. And moving the HQ? You think the hundreds of engineers, sale persons, and execs are all going to drop their lives to move across the country based on the whim of Musk, who has not been emotionally stable for at least the last 2 years? The disruption to the business by moving now probably will be fatal to the company.

That said, the county should reconsider, make criteria for safe opening and if a manufacturer can match that, let them open. There are ways to get back to work safely rather than having to force companies to wait another month. I think they should have at least allowed opening around May 20th.

So, Musk needs to chill out a bit first, pursue the lawsuit (it's one way to compel action), and engage the county to make concessions.  But, gawddamn, his tweets are so childish it's off-putting and bad for the company as people will sour on the Tesla brand.

AIUI, per Newsome's latest order, they should be able to open back up. The county is superceeding the state. The mayor agrees with Tesla, but can't superceed the county. Tesla already reopened the factory in China, and are claiming they're taking appropriate precautions to protect workers from each other.

Personally it sounds like they're trying to reopen safely, but the county isnt willing to entertain any discussion for individual businesses putting specific procedures in place, they just want to wait until they feel confident with everyone following the same minimal precautions.

OTOH, Elon needs to shut the fark up for a while and let someone else who can communicate nuance take point on the PR, because he's failing miserably at it. He's coming off as one of the "fark it, open up and let Grandma die to save the economy" types, even as behind the scenes they're trying to make it work safely, and that's not helping.

Time to put up or shut up hot shot. Never come to California or use any product that is designed or manufactured in California if you disagree with California so much. Californians will appreciate that on personal level, and you will have no ability to annoy other people with your drivel other than those unlucky enough to be within hearing distance.

Musk thought automated robots were as advanced as Terminators.

https://www.cbc.ca/news/technology/tesla-model-3-sedan-automation-robots-manufacturing-delay-1.4734829

FTA: By way of example, Musk described a robot designed to place noise-dampening fibreglass fluff on top of a battery pack. "Machines are not good at picking up pieces of fluff," he said. "Human hands are way better at doing that."

Yes, it is true: Humans are better fluffers than robots.

Fenrisulfr: Heliodorus: Fenrisulfr: Heliodorus: Prussian_Roulette: Prussian_Roulette: How about Alameda County residents - no, ALL California taxpayers - chip in to a "Save the Tesla Plant" mark up on their next tax bill?

Time to put up or shut up hot shot. Never come to California or use any product that is designed or manufactured in California if you disagree with California so much. Californians will appreciate that on personal level, and you will have no ability to annoy other people with your drivel other than those unlucky enough to be within hearing distance.

Only if you promise never to LEAVE California - No matter how bad it gets.....

lol keep deluding yourself, the costal states will always be better off than the interior. But I'm sure the people I employ in the midwest would appreciate not having jobs. Especially since I'm carrying them due to the quarantine mess.

The only people you employ are the farmers paid by the SNAP benefits you receive....

Do you really not know how the inflow and outflows of federal tax dollars work? Because we talk about it all the time on Fark. All the time.

Yeah, lets all be honest here

Hes using this as a convenient excuse to find a reason to move operations to states with the lowest minimum wages possible (7.25 texas and 8.25 nevada), no worker protections, very red politicians who view people as livestock to be used and discarded when they break down, fantastic anti union views and plenty of under the table cheap labor available, because he will do anything to cut costs right now. That is his only motivation

Yeah you carry your happy lil ass out to deep red America where you can write a check to the right guy and get your plant open. But remember, they don't fund their schools for shiat cause a bunch of other assholes have already written large checks to the right people to make their taxes disappear. Also on top of that science ain't high on the list of important subjects and may be altered if it butts heads with the local brand of religion so you may have some prospective employees who may want to burn your factor to the ground because you use the metric system and thus must be a nwo lizard person bent on destroying America. But hey, lower taxes and government will do what you pay em to.

That'll show them.

California should be as glad to be rid of him as they were when Toyota left.

Prussian_Roulette: CrazyCurt: Well, bye.

Shiat just got real for Alameda County.

pup.socket: Why does he still need people in his factory, wasn't it all robots and computers, unlike those dinosaur manufacturers, Toyotas, Hondas and whatnot?

Tesla tried manufacturing mostly with robots and failed miserably.
They turned profitable when they switched to humans

Why is ANYONE giving credit to the owner of an electric car company for being a genius?  Why is Prussian_Roulette storming into this thread defending the good work he's supposedly done?

Why are we calling Musk a genius for buying the founder title to a company that was already going to manufacture electric cars and then shamelessly embracing liberal glee for it while forcing his workers to work in unsafe conditions, union-breaking and basically being a Republican in all his actions?

Liberals didn't turn against him just for joining Trump's task force, they turned against him when the awful worker conditions scandal started hitting mainstream news and that was just bonus spice.  Jamie Dimon gets slammed all the time for being a milquetoast liberal who peddles centrist garbage and is willing to push for policy changes that would give his bank TONS more ability to harm and exploit the public, pushed as he is from his shareholders and worldview-bubble from behind, but we don't make the mistake of calling Musk a liberal, and I've been mad about how anyone thought he was for even a second.  He was like Trump -- only a "liberal" when fashion suited him, when his crystallized beliefs were all screw-the-underclasses.

Sounds like Tesla is on the verge of Bankruptcy. The problem is first he would need to build an entirely new factory for which Tesla would not have the cash for. Then he would have to move the workers and hire/train new ones. Then he would have to make cars. Waste of time...
