OK, this was fun!  See y'all next weekend for actual racing that won't be nearly as fun as this has been.

Don't laugh, the groundskeeper there will come after you with a shotgun.   Nice guy though.

The best part about driving by that track for years after it closed, was still seeing the Winston Cup sign out on 421.

FiendishFellow05: I gotta say, this is a really cool race. As someone who started really watching NASCAR around ~2001, after the track was off the schedule, it's fun to see a real - if virtual - race at North Wilkesboro.

Also, thank you to the kind person who gifted me TotalFark - I'll try to make good use of it.

And Custer puts his custard through a spin cycle. Whoops!

He and Bobby Labonte are my picks, since they've actually raced there in Cup competition.  Junior is a close third, since he ran late models there.

For what it's worth, John Hunter Nemecheck and Chase Elliott have both raced at North Wilkesboro for real.  Nemechek raced in the Allison Legacy Series and Elliott in PASS back in 2010.  Not sure if that translates over to virtual racing, but they've actually had on-track experience in it. (Elliott even won the PASS race before getting DQ'd for post-race inspection)

it's too bad nobody has been able to make it work financially to bring North Wilkesboro back as a racing facility.  it's a neat little track, and nice to see what a modern Cup race would look like there virtually.

pretty neat what they had to do to prepare the track to have it scanned and put into the game

You're taking out Labonte?

Whoops.  Old targeting data.  Saw the number 18 and thought it was Schrub.  My bad.

Psst...theyre both 18. Target the candy

Oh no. I've seen pictures of the current state of this track. It's no longer salvagable, you'd have to bulldoze it all and start over.

Eh, it's a track. You may have to replace the grandstands and the press boxes, but the track itself would need repaving at most.

That's not what the track looks like now...there's a grandstand that goes all around turn 1 through turn 3.  But nice 80's era rendering.

Really don't think it was the end of everything for him remotely. It did her racing career no favors.

The whole Erin Crocker thing led to Evernham Racing being bought out, and then merged into Richard Petty Motorsports. And that was it for him in any capacity in racing other than as an analyst on and off for a few years.

Honestly I'm shocked they couldn't coax Mark Martin into racing today.  Or either Petty, more than likely Kyle, though we'd have wanted Richard.  Actually, King Richard and He Who Shall Not Be Named facing off would've been the first time two seven-time Cup champs raced each other in a NASCAR sanctioned event; Dale Sr. was only at five when Petty retired.  The difference, of course, being that Petty earned his seven.
