Are we sure it's not because it's (puts on shades) SEPTIC?

My dad told me that joke, which was told to him by his dad, all the way back to a guy who roofed Ben Franklins house.

That joke is so dad, it has s system for cleaning the gutters.

To be fair, if everyone would have gotten personal flying jetpacks instead of everything be shutdown due to COVID, we'd still be in the same predicament.

>SEPTA is hemorrhaging money and riders thanks to the coronavirus pandemic - and now, it also faces an imminent shortfall in state transit funding that could delay critical infrastructure projects like station renovations or new vehicle purchases.

If it's hemorrhaging riders why worry?

Although SEPTA will benefit from some $643 million in federal aid, the transit agency has seen ridership declines upwards of 70% in city transit and 90% on Regional Rail as of late last month. Officials have cut salaries and switched to minimalistic "lifeline" transit service to stave off a financial collapse.

OK, so it's going broke because they are not able to reduce their service relative to the reduced demand either.  I wasn't sure "minimalistic" was a word, apparently it is but I fail to see what the reductions have to do with the Minimalist art movement...

Oh no, SEPTA won't work the way a transit system should? Someone get my fainting couch!

Pennsylvania, the northern most southern state. If you want to get a job with the turnpike you really have to know someone. As in be related or done political favors.

Well That explains it!  I've Wondered where the gazillions of dollars we get assraped for in tolls on the Turnpike go!  Coz it sure as hell isn't going to fix and maintain that shiatty road.

My thoughts about about the Pennsy Turnpike is having those Wawa, Sheetz, Turkey Hill, et al employees forced to fill coffee orders from 20-odd coffee dispensers must be exhausting , and those freelance fascists tossing luggage & beating up travelers on a DEA grsnt at the Breezewood Greyhound Depot can suck balls  https://www.delcotimes.com/business/wawa-shutting-down-self-service-coffee-bars/article_5278d102-6a92-11ea-9256-17005fa7864c.html

their issue is of course the presumed funding model.

here's the case study:
If your police budget receives a substantial amount of it's funding from speeding tickets.
What happen if everyone just does obey the speed laws?

Did we suddenly have less dangerous crimes and need of police simply because people were not speeding?

Some stuff we just need. Ask this question: If it was impossible to make a profit providing water, would we all just give up and die of dehydration?
If it was impossible to cover police costs with speeding ticket money, would we just not need and so disband having a standing police force?
If you need a mass transit system, then you do, and so you just have to be ready to pay to have what you need. Tons of important needs will not work right and should not be behind private profit walls, or the fantasy that anything and everything can just pay for itself somehow.

Ask yourself this:
If the police are expected to pay for their own salaries with criminal convictions/fines. can you really ttust them to be honest about it, when their very own livelihoods are what wind up at stake to them, if the rest of us don't commit enough crimes.

The "profits" or values of that stuff cannot really be well described using just this $.
If what you want is civilization, then there are prerequisite costs and sacrifices to be made, and on going costs/efforts of maintenance to be given.
And the real return value of civilization cannot be described with one of these $, at all.

Stop making drivers pay for mass transit.
If you can't figure out how to make the passengers pay for it, then don't have mass transit.  Or tax all the people living in apartments, they are the ones riding the bus.

Why? The idea is that you should be using public transit, instead of driving a third of a ton of vehicle how many miles a day with ONE person in it.

$603M should pay for a couple off ramps.
