But Trump has said no other president has been better for the gays!  I think we should trust him instead of the people his policies are hurting.

I went to an HRC dinner during the 2016 Democratic Party presidential primaries and they had a little segment where they announced their support for Hillary and went around the room for donations.  It was the quietest moment of the evening.

On my way back to my car, I noticed that the ratio of Sanders to Clinton bumper stickers was about 3:1.  It was clear that the audience did not see Clinton as an enthusiastic ally.

Bluntly, she let me down so hard when she was my senator that everything after that felt like she was just coming around after decisions were already made. FWIW, Biden was at least a little ahead of the curve. Others, like Sanders and Pelosi, were decades in front, actively participating and representing gay constituents. I know Obama was against it for a while too, but Hillary didn't even want the *state* of New York to recognize gay marriages when she was running for Senate (per her answer in the Chris Matthews College Tour)... she never really owned the damage her policies did, even when she changed positions, she never seemed to wrap around just how many of my friends were hurt by her shiatty imposition of her personal religion on everyone else, using the force of government.

The Clinton's were ahead of the curve, she didn't support gay marriage fast enough but she supported a hell of a lot of other things.

They tried to allow gay people to serve openly and ended up losing the House in his first term.  She was the first First Lady to march in a pride parade.

She did a lot, to pretend she was on the sidelines is very inaccurate.

Listen, Joe Biden was against gay marriage before 2012 which makes him a non-starter. Much better to endorse the guy who said he was against gay marriage in 2015 and has expressed his support of people expressing their faith by discriminating against gay people in the years since.

That sounds totally legit that donors at a political fundraising dinner would have bumper stickers on their cars.

Progressive queers aren't so keen on the HRC.  They're fine much of the time and it's good they're there in general, but they will always choose centrist political convenience over what's right, and that inevitably harms the most vulnerable in the queer community.  A ton of my trans friends refuse to support them in any way because of how horribly they threw the trans community under the bus years ago over marriage equality.

So this seems entirely in line with them.

Pretty much this.

Democrats need to learn that "not Trump" isn't a terribly big selling point for a lot of progressives and marginalized folks as a lot of people seem to think. Right now, democrats are seemingly content with "we won't genocide you" being their biggest selling point, when juxtaposed with Trump... And that's simply not enticing coming from politicians that've spent years otherwise throwing us under the bus the moment it became politically expedient, and whining that it's the progressive's faults that they don't vote for that doesn't help!
