It's the ultimate gesture of defiance.

Ice cream + soft drink isn't that weird? We call it a float.
Vegemite toast isn't weird, either, but Marmite is the superior yeast extract. Need to get more Marmite to make some cheesy toast...

Came here to say that sausages or hot dogs in a piece of diagonally placed bread with onions and condiments  is, like, how we ate hot dogs growing up in the northeast US. Also soda & ice cream is called a "float" and it's as old as ice cream and soda.

I don't get the hot dog (sausage) layed diagonally on white bread.

That's how I have been eating Hot Dogs for years, when I don't have proper buns.

They should have thrown in the disgusting stuff...Like Steak and Kidney pie...Pie my ass...a perfect waste of good steak.

What are you talking about?

Steak and kidney pie is delicious. It was probably the best thing I had when went to Australia.

Article author is probably wowed by spice racks with eight spices.

A hot dog on SLICED bread? That's crazy.

Your second sentence is unrelated to the first.

Nothing weird about onion flowers, they were a staple at the Renfaire for decades.

None of that was really strange.

I've seen sprinkles on buttered white bread before. Always gonna pass on eating that, though.

/shrimp, vegetables, and fruit in aspic is way weirder than any of that
//i'll pass on those as well

That fried cabbage thing is pretty weird

So the article doesn't even post/host its own pictures. Is Instagram that successful where it doesn't have to break the links with funky pics like photo bucket and the early internet picture hosting sites? I have seen this with Pinterest pics too on Serious Eats but  i thought that may have been a business arrangement.

Well, that was pretty lame... I mean #1 is like... something everybody knows about Australia, I've never tried vegemite and wouldn't even know where to get it... #2 is literally a farking root beer float with different sodas... We do that here to, it's just that Root Beer is the most common soda for a float in the US... then there's sausage on plain white bread?  Has whoever wrote this article never ran out of buns before?  if it's stupid but it works it's not stupid.

A fried potato thing no one can name?  GTFO, we call them hash browns in some places.  Shredded cabbage in a roll is just a bad egg roll etc...

Damn it Australia! I'm disappointed in you as a country, a continent and a people.  Don't the Aboriginals at least have something crazy i can't get an approximation of at Jack in the Box at 3:00 AM?  Some sort of scorpion souffle or something?  Wombat stew?  No?  You guys just aren't living up to my expectations in this article.

The Fry's (Kroger) grocery store chain carries Marmite, at least here in Arizona.  World Market has Vegemite.

Isn't fried cabbage in a deep fried wrapper 80% of an egg roll?

Very little of that was weird. 8 is a bit odd, 15 is just wrong, and 21 seems lazy. Otherwise most of these don't seem very unique. Some are slight twists on what I'm used to but not mindboggling transformations. I get the feeling the author hasn't been outside of Australia much.

I get the feeling the author probably hasn't been outside of Sydney with maybe an exception for a "wild adventure" to Melbourne.

That list is at best a lazy google image search for "Australian food" but really we are all the idiots for clicking on a Buzzfeed link and expecting anything else.
