Oh yay I get to tell a CSS that's also Star Wars/WWDITS related!

So I tweet with Harvey Guillen (Guillermo) or rather I rave about the show at him on a regular basis. I knew Mark Hamill was going to be guest staring this season and tagged him in a tweet last week with Harvey.

2020 has sucked massive balls so far but being able to talk with Guillermo and Luke Skywalker pretty much made my year. He replied with the wrong date for his episode but I wasn't able to screen shot his original reply.

A one-off feature set in the universe, but not burdened with a multi-movie story arc?

This could be really awesome.

YESSSSS! We only got 2 "A Star Wars Story" movies! We need MORE. What about the planned Jabba the Hutt standalone film? What about the backstory behind the Max Rebo band and their interesting music style, Jizz (yes really look it up)? A trilogy about General Grievance? Or a movie which surveys the planet where Admiral Ackbar spawned? Or how about one which explores the business of Nerf herding? I NEED TO KNOW THESE THINGS TELL ME THEM

The last four eps of The Clone Wars series could've been released in pre-COVID  theaters and would've crushed TROS.  I'm hoping Rosario Dawson becomes a regular on The Mandalorian, and not, you know, Nick Nolte....

If you take away the force, the jedi/sith stuff, and death stars, the Star Wars universe has a lot of fun story-telling opportunities.

Well, if this ain't the first good news of the day!

Waititi, working with the lady who cowrote 1917?  Now that's a team that can deliver a solid movie that shows an angle not really seen before, and do it well.

I can't wait to see what the plot's gonna be about.  Nar Shadda criminals trying to hijack an Imperial payroll shipment?  A great bank robbery during the Old Republic?  Rebel pilots fighting on another front in-between Empire and Jedi?  An Imperial ship trying to decide if its loyalty should be to a now-dead insane tyrant's burn order or if it should defect to protect the people it was nominally protecting up that point?  Anything is in play now!

I mean at this time the reality for me, of the SW franchise, is that it is the franchise of Fan Fiction.

This is the general cookie cutter:
I seen SW and I had my own ideas about what i would do in the SW setting.

That is the very basis of what fan fiction is, and i do not measure the quality of the fan fiction author. There is no real need as fan fiction is what it is, it is not following in the footsteps to carry on The Story to its conclusion like a serial of some kind.

Fan fiction is treating the original as the pool you do your own story dive into.
The fan fiction is not furthering a specifically set out story to its conclusions, it is borrowing the setting of the original story, to tell its own story and do it's won thing. Just co-opting the setting and characters of the original story to do so.
It might even hold to the original plot devices, but most doing this just wind up being the self injected fan/the rising pop ideology expressed through the author's fandom.

So it is to me that SW has already played out the story that it was really, and all subsequent SW material, is just fan fiction.

To me, the very notion of, the history of what happened before the story that was what was told and was  inspiring does not matter. We know it does not matter or we would never have been able to start a story out in the middle of what sets up the story we are telling.
If the "prequel"  story actually did matter, then we could not have started out on SW IV in the first place. The prequel  is the kind of stuff fan fiction authors been thinking and witting about long log before that term became part of pop culture.
.
And if there is way way way more story to tell after the first story we told, and the events of the previous "heroes" stories don't seem to have done much...wtf is that chit but undermining the first story and the original hoers to stay, yeah sure they did all that and tried real hard but ultimately here we are still having the same problems they had so obviously it will be our charterers who are the real heroes that are who really saves the day that those previous charterers apparently didn't really.

SW, it's all just fan fic at this point from my POV.

How about a cheap series following a new detective on Coruscant, starting before the battle of Genosis and ending sometime after the battle of Endor? Put the galactic war and rebellion more into the background while showing some of how it affected the little people? You could probably run it on whatever Doctor Who costs, especially without having to rebuild sets and costumes as much.

Leslye Headland.  She co-created/wrote Russian Doll (which was amazing).  She's gonna be the showrunner for a currently unnamed Star Wars Disney+ series.

Just got around to watching Rise of Skywalker. My sizzling hot take is that it was just fine in a vacuum (by no means perfect, but fine), but terrible as the third act in a trilogy and ninth act in a series.

The Bounty Hunter Trilogy is a great example.  Lots of action, familiar settings but plenty of new stuff and a story with no links to the main SW arc.  That could easily become a mini-series or a single movie with some proper editing and you wouldn't need Fett or Dengar.

The Force, the Jedi, and the Sith need to fade into the background to be treated with a very, very, light touch until it/they becomes special again. That is because Lucas f*cked that chicken to death and then JJ raped the corpse with overuse. The Jedi became a bunch a Cirque DuSoleil clown show of insufferable assholes. (Not you Kanan, you cool). Anyhoo, stay away from Jedi for a while.

Mmm... those are some of his works that I'm not so keen on, but to be faaair, I don't think I've actually watched an entire episode of ToL, but I did watch a couple of episodes of Year of the Rabbit and it didn't do much for me.

He also did Reeves and Mortimer's House of Fools, which conceptually - a sitcom based around crazy shenanigans going on at Bob's house - didn't really grab my attention.

/But I f*cking love WWDITS and all of Taika Waititi's work that I've seen, so if he's doing a Star Wars, I'm on board.

And since we're talking about TV stuff, via Jemaine Clement's links to Taika Waititi... the show Dave is coming to the BBC soon. From the trailers, it looks like Flight of the Conchords, with a bit more hip-hop than what the Hiphoppopotamus and Rhymenoceros delivered.

I mean, I'm gunna watch it anyway, but any Farkers got comments on whether it's any good?
