This. Despite a press that only pushes a little and that rarely, general coverage of the situation only makes him look bad. Running ads now lets him punch back, which he's bizarrely good at doing. Save your money for the last quarter before the election, or spend it on remote voting efforts.

wtfh do you base this map on?  you know WA state is significantly ahead of the rest of the country in the progress of the epidemic.  We're pretty much the only state that can talk about reopening without it being idiotic and if you looked at our reopening plans it's not "we're going from restrictions to opening" it's "we're going to ease restrictions slowly by phases based on metrics of safety"

like... you just look like a farking idiot including washington in "trumped".

i) Trumps campaign is one giant grift - the only people he'll pay for ads are the ones who will make a token effort then pocket the cash;
ii) Trump has his press rallies Coronavirus briefings to pump his ego - coverage that would cost him millions to buy if the media wasn't giving it to him for free.
iii) Tara Reid is all the Trumpers need to depress turnout for Biden.

2020-05-03 3:15:55 AM
Trump already gets 2 hours of free airtime every single day - why waste money on ads?

Besides, he's being smart; he's waiting until the re-opening begins, and then will run ads incessantly about how he "beat the virus" single-handedly while the Democrats still want to keep the economy closed.

Republicans need the election to be a choice between Biden and Trump and not a referendum on the president's performance and rhetoric in office, according to Republican and Democratic strategists.

That's kind of a weird strategy to running an election. "Please don't look at the things he said and did while holding the job for the last four years. We want you to give Trump the job because the guy who was vice president to a wildly popular president for 8 years would be absolutely terrible as the president."

Well, for starters, his opponent isn't Hillary Clinton. She had decades of smears against her and a certain amount of misogyny (even if you assume misogyny wasn't THAT big of a problem, she "lost" by a handful of votes, statistically speaking, meaning any small disadvantage could have contributed), and even then, Trump barely squeaked out a "win" using the idiotic electoral college and Republican voter suppression/electoral fraud.

Biden doesn't have the baggage Hillary had. All Trump's campaign has against him so far is a transparently-hypocritical accusation of nepotism, and a rape accusation that's full of a shiatload of holes.

Biden isn't my preferred candidate (I preferred Warren), but Donald Trump would have to be a colossal moron to underestimate him. So, y'know, that's what he's doing.

Trump never WANTED to be president!

He was disappointed when he won.

He wanted to whine and blame and play the victim of conspiracy.

He has done everything he could to try to get impeached, and still the asshole Senate Republicans cockblocked him and kept him in office.

Of course he doesn't want to win again!  Presidenting is hard.  And I don't mean like "math is hard, let's go shopping", I mean like it ages men like 3 times faster than normal from the stress.  Tat is why he spends all his time golfing and watching TV and Tweeting.

That's not a benefit to him this go-round.

Every time he opens his mouth he drops in the polls.

Hell, I'd say after the first couple of days of briefings, most people were simply watching to see what sort of bullshiat would fall out of his pie hole and who he would start a fight with. I know that's why I watched.

Lot of doom and gloom in here. If Biden truly is popular (or at least not unpopular) with the old folks, then Trump is in serious trouble, given their propensity for showing up at the polls. This, of course, is assuming that the virus doesn't knock out a double digit percent of them before the election.

The GOP is not helping themselves much with their whole "let the weak die" platform, as most seniors will (correctly) see themselves as part of the group the GOP wishes to sacrifice

Biden's strong support among seniors is pretty consistent in recent surveys. He led Trump among over-65 voters by 15 points (57-42) in the most recent ABC-Washington Post national poll, in which Biden's overall lead was just two points (49-47). Old folks preferred him 55-42 in an early April CNN poll (he led overall 53-42) and by 54-41 in an early April Quinnipiac survey (his overall lead was 49-41).

I very much object to the implication that Gov. Inslee is botching the response here in Washington. He's been quite good. Yes, he has begun the process of reopening the state but in a very gradual and controlled way, with plenty of opportunities to ratchet back if necessary. According to his schedule I should look forward to going back to work by the end of June, provided that the new case rate remains acceptable. And I may be able to get back to my neighborhood bar and flirt with the cute bartender again by the end of August, if all goes according to plan. But Inslee is committed to taking things slowly and monitoring the situation, pausing or reversing the process as needed. I think he's been a bit of a rock star.

The initial image is based on the second image from the thread about which Governor s are doing what.

The "trumped" means the Trumpanzees are having an effect on the governors and pushing for reopening.

My point is I'm worried about these Governors who are opening. Trump can be slammed with this stuff and Biden can use it to punch at Trump.

Biden isn't my favorite but I think he is tougher than Trump and Trump is afraid of him.

Someone has to stick up for the governors. Hogan and Cuomo do a lot but they're just two people and they have to run their states right now too in addition to leading the Governors Association.

Biden is in a good position to wage a war of ideas.

It's not.

In fact, the overwhelming majority (including republicans) believe stay at home restrictions are the right thing to be doing. And republican governors aren't neccesarily getting businesses and places of worship's blessings either. In Iowa, Kim Reynolds opened up business and churches across the state. Even had a few preacher men call in and thank her, bless her, yada yada, Trump style. Yet, on this morning's local news, they couldn't find any churches holding in-person services. Virtually every church was still closed and live streaming services.
