.....I'm a Hufflepuff. My lock screen is a picture of my husband dancing with our oldest daughter (5years old at the time) at his best friends' wedding. They look very fancy and adorable.

For me, I just used the source image as an image upload button near the right end of the add-comment box (next to the hyperlink buttons).

I tried that. My phone is complete crap (Alcatel One Touch, if you want to know what to avoid). When I tap on "image upload", I get the letter "T" in the comment box, or no response at all. For every letter I get correct, there are three that I have to backspace over. Here is the source image cropped to how it looks on the phone:

1) Create a new screen just as if you're going to drop some new icons in. On a Samsung, that's a long press on the screen (not on any icons), scroll all the way to the right and then hit the giant plus sign. This will allow you to take a clean shot of the background photo without many icons in the way.

2) Take a screenshot using the phone's buttons. This depends on the phone. This way, you should get an exact image of what you see on your phone.

3) Use a photo editor to scale it down to a usable size and then save it. Upload to Fark.

Sounds pretty bad. My philosophy on phones (and most things actually) is that if you're on a budget, a quality option with miles is better than new junk.
I have a Samsung Note 5 which is about 5 years old now and it still works. The battery isn't what it used to be but otherwise I have no complaints. I'm planning to get the battery changed soon. It should be hopelessly obsolete, but it still works great. You can get one of these for about $130 on Amazon and it should serve well for years to come. My main phone is a Note 8 which was only $300 - and it also works great.

My first touchscreen smartphone was a Note 3, which unfortunately got immersed in water - twice - and came back from the dead both times and went on to work like nothing happened (after drying out). Long before that, I had a Motorola flip phone (back when flip phones were normal) which I dropped onto a tile floor and the antenna broke off. I superglued it back together and it continued to work until I finally got a Blackberry.

My first laptop in college was a twice-used IBM Thinkpad. It wasn't as new as other options, but it was built like a tank. Unfortunately someone had dropped it a few times before, so when I got it, it had structural damage but I ran it until the monitor literally fell apart. It would have kept going otherwise.

Anyway, incidents like that sold me on the idea - you can never go wrong with quality, even if comes with some depreciation.
